About This Pipe
Todd Johnson pipes bridge the gap between fine smoking instruments and fine art, as each piece he produces delivers the utmost in both aesthetics and engineering. This comes as no surprise, given Johnson's background: He earned a Master's degree in aesthetics from Yale University and studied under several of the pipe-making greats, including Tom Eltang and Anne Julie.
Similar to an Eskimo, the Sarcophagus is one of Johnson's signature designs, and features a flat, broad shank that rivals the bowl's saucer-like width. We have only received examples of it a few times in our entire history, making it a particularly special piece. It's an incredible feat of artistry, which comes as no surprise given Todd's background and portfolio. This particular rendition is a one-piece design, with the mouthpiece carved directly into the briar for a truly seamless appearance. A craggy sandblast dresses the stummel, offering a wealth of stimulating texture and imbuing the piece with a rustic, organic aesthetic. For fans of Johnson's work, this uncommon design is one you won't want to miss out on.
