Presbyterian - Presbyterian 50g
Yet another ruined tobacco..
I'm a fan of this blend, which I've always bought in tins, but since it's now sold in pouches, I've had to settle for this one. I should point out that the pouch version has been available in some markets for several years, but since STG messed around with its own hands, they've only been selling this one. Smoking both versions makes you realize you're smoking two different tobaccos, only one of which is good. When you opened the tin version, it released a very incense-like aroma all its own; you couldn't tell if it was latakia because you couldn't detect it as such. Even when you smoked it, it was a bit mystical with this particular incense, and it was so spicy you couldn't tell if it was perique. The pouch version has none of this. Upon opening, you get a slightly hayy, low-quality tobacco aroma, with a hint of latakia. At times, I thought I was looking at Clan, that typical, undefined, disgusting tobacco aroma that they surely mass-produce for many tobaccos before being flavored with chemical flavorings. Here, they just added latakia, similar aromas even when smoking, no spiciness or incense, just a light, obvious, monotonous latakia on an inconsistent base. I don't know if the pouch version has always been like this, but it's certainly not Presbyterian, just a poor imitation created to stop people from buying it. This is yet another blend that has gone extinct due to a devotion to saving money. I gave it 2 stars because at least that latakia aroma is noticeable right to the end and doesn't disappear into thin air halfway through the bowl like any pouch tobacco. A total disappointment!
Borkum Riff - Cherry Cavendish 1.5oz
The worst tobacco I've ever smoked
At first you taste a bit of cherry, and as you smoke it turns into a slightly sweet cigarette with a bitter aftertaste...obviously zero evolution, just a nasty taste in the mouth. You don't get halfway through the bowl before you've already thrown away the tobacco, and if you smoke with corn cob, you throw that away too. STG is making these tobaccos their trademark, trashing everything good about them. They cost less to produce, and they delude themselves into attracting e-cigarette smokers. If you like fruity smokes, use a hookah; use this chemical junk for the cat litter box.
