About This Pipe Tobacco

Artfully developed by Gregory Pease, Loch Ness is a Scottish-style crumble plug mixture comprising ribbons of small-leaf Oriental, smoky Cypriot Latakia, and rare Louisiana Perique, elevated by bright lemon and matured red Virginia tobaccos. Once blended, the loose mixture is pressed and aged in cakes to meld flavors, then cut into plugs — combining the flavor-enhancing benefits of the pressing process with an easy, straightforward preparation for the pipe.

"I blended Loch Ness in the Scottish tradition with a wee twist. In the bowl, rich full flavors offer hints of dark fruit with spicy overtones. Destined to be drenched in folklore like its namesake, Loch Ness will soothe even the most ferocious beasts." - Gregory Pease

In the tin, Loch Ness' aromas are markedly decadent, punctuated by notes deep and opulent with an alluring hint of smoky zest. On the palate, the blend is rich and complex in flavor, balancing a tangy sweetness with piquant spice, hints of dark, stewed fruits, and a creamy, rounded finish. Medium in strength with fathoms of body and leagues of complexity, Loch Ness is the perfect all-day smoke for the lover of traditional Scottish and English pipe tobaccos.

The mystery that is Loch Ness

Product: Drucquer & Sons Loch Ness 100g
My first two English blends were Presbyterian mixture and Maltese falcon. I loved Presbyterian but felt like Maltese falcon fell short of the hype it is given but due to the quality of tobacco I wanted to give GL Pease blends another try. So I bought a tin of Meridian and a tin of Loch Ness, popped the Loch Ness as soon as I got it today, and just wow what a complex mixture just from the tin note itself, of course it has that typical English blend smokiness with earth like undertones but what really catches the attention of your nose is the sweetness a raisin or other dark dried fruit. The crumble cake format makes it extremely easy to break down for the pipe and needed no drying time.
Trying to describe the smoke is almost trying to describe to somebody what the mythical Loch Ness really looks like. The charring light and first third of the bowl are very earthy but with a noticeable sweetness, trying to pinpoint the exact type of fruit the sweetness is coming from is so complex and nuance, sometimes you taste raisin bread, other times it’s like a blackberry or a very dark grape like the type that is used for those really dark red wines that look more purple than red.
This is definitely not a blend you’re going to get bored of quickly, I am absolutely going to be picking up some more when it is back in stock

salty cheese

Product: Drucquer & Sons Loch Ness 100g
I tried the tobacco the day after I received it. I didn’t really get any boozy notes—maybe it hasn’t aged long enough yet—but it still smoked very well. Personally, I felt it had a hint of salty cheese flavor. Next, I’ll jar it up in a Mason jar to let it age, and I’ll try it again after some time. The blend recommended by Mr. Zhanping is really great, haha....Read More
What to say -- Glenfiddich and Loch Ness

Product: Drucquer & Sons Loch Ness 100g
I usually save my Glenfiddich for celebrating important meaningful life highlights for my Sons and my Daughter. I ran out of another whiskey and pulled out the Glenfiddich poured a double and went out to my porch for an evening of reading, piping, and imbibing. This sitting out took me back to late evening camping with Boy Scout Leaders in North Yorkshire when I was on a three-year government job in the 1980's. So here I am in South Carolina, reading, piping, drinking, looking at the stars, and watching a campfire burn out -- and missing my children, family, and friends. The smoke from this tobacco is heavy and shimmers like a dragon tail when contrasted against a small wood fire. The aroma reminds me of peat bogs and a warm dark brew beer, as does the flavor that is left on the tongue when the smoke is done. Jame...Read More
BEST Scottish There Is
January 16, 2025
Product: Drucquer & Sons Loch Ness 100g
I'll keep it simple, this is the BEST Scottish style blend in existence. Wonderful mature Virginias on top supported by a solid mix of Orientals and a bit of Perique and Latakia. That's the way it should be--classic. I do believe that an almost $7 increase (;even discounted) over the original $20 just a couple of years back is a bit much, but it might be worth it....Read More
