About This Pipe Tobacco
For Yorktown, the folks at Cornell & Diehl combine stoved red Virginia with bright Virginia and restove it. Straight red Virginia is then added to this remarkable base for sweetness. The acme of mixtures for the Virginia purist!

Purchased a pound of Yorktown and found it very underwhelming. Had a couple of bowls and decided to put it away for a while. Came back to it a year later and the virginias really pop now. Also works well for blending into harsher blends to tone them down and bring in a little sweetness.

the best and packing the bowl on the tight side helps slow the burn down. I've found with this method it tastes toasty, sweet, bready with baking spice undertones. Tastes similar to cinnamon bread.
I'll be shunned for saying it......but Yorktown is way better than Escudo or Dunhill Elizabethan Mixture. Sure yeah, Yorktown doesn't have perique. Take some Yorktown and add some perique at about 10 to 15%. Maybe even 20%. You'll have something in the same vane. Get Yorktown in bulk or tin. It doesn't matter as I've never noticed a difference between one or the other. I highly recommend it....Read More

ds too far away from the fuel to keep going sometimes. That's where you get the perfect flavors-- when the ember is right on the edge of going out. When you relight, don't let the flame touch the leaf. Be gentle, please, and you will LOVE this blend.
My notes are Cristal champagne and buttered whole-wheat toast. It can easily be pushed into cigar territory, though I liked that set of flavors, too. If you push it too hard, it can get spicy. It can go into cigarette territory, but it's like old Nat Sherman, not bargain-basement brand. But you're doing it wrong if you're getting that back. Do it right, and you're having a full-bodied champagne with toast, maybe some lemongrass in chardonnay territory sometimes. There is an occasional fermenty note.
Looking at the quality of the leaves in my bulk purchase, I'm impressed. Wonderful smell in the jar.
This is a great smoke for when you're relaxed and patient enough to get the most out of it. Maybe smoke a little burley first, if you're wanting a smoke to calm down. Then follow up with Yorktown when you're already as chill as you want to keep that bowl. The flavors can really wow me when I let them.
This is also great mixed 50/50 with Red Virginia Cavendish. The mix falls naturally right together with no pressing or jar time required, and is considerably easier to get the best flavors from. The mix is different-- more bread, less chardonnay, more comfort than wow-factor. I love Yorktown either in my own blends or by itself. This is a cellar cornerstone....Read More

Sweet, rich, deep, and a good balance of red / stewed fruit and bread notes. If you are a fan of C&D virginia's, or trying to find their best of the lot, this one deserves to be in your list.
Average blend for me.
