About This Pipe Tobacco

For Yorktown, the folks at Cornell & Diehl combine stoved red Virginia with bright Virginia and restove it. Straight red Virginia is then added to this remarkable base for sweetness. The acme of mixtures for the Virginia purist!

Yorktown

Product: Cornell & Diehl Yorktown Bulk

I've been looking for a while for a go-to no nonsense pure Virginia blend. Given that this is a ribbon cut, I think this just might be the winner. It has more depth than I was expecting. It burns a little hot which is fine, I'll just smoke it slower. I do love flakes and the summit series' plugs, but just for convenience sake this tops the list....Read More

Product: Cornell & Diehl Yorktown 2oz

Sweet, rich, deep, and a good balance of red / stewed fruit and bread notes. If you are a fan of C&D virginia's, or trying to find their best of the lot, this one deserves to be in your list.

Purchased a pound of Yorktown and found it very underwhelming. Had a couple of bowls and decided to put it away for a while. Came back to it a year later and the virginias really pop now. Also works well for blending into harsher blends to tone them down and bring in a little sweetness.

Easy smoking Virginia

Product: Cornell & Diehl Yorktown Bulk

It gives the subtle sweetness that I’ve come to expect from Virginia tobaccos. I taste mostly a sweet bread type flavor with subtle notes of dried fruit. The tobacco comes very dry in the bag and is a quick smoke. I would rate the vitamin N level as medium. Good, but nothing to write home about....Read More

Escudo/Elizabethan Killer

Product: Cornell & Diehl Yorktown 2oz

Over the last 4 or 5 years, Yorktown has become the epitome of a great everyday blend for me. A lot of people have complained about harshness. Yes, it can be harsh. BUT.....the key to this blend that I've found is the pipe and packing method. I've found the small and narrow bowl of a cob pipe works the best and packing the bowl on the tight side helps slow the burn down. I've found with this method it tastes toasty, sweet, bready with baking spice undertones. Tastes similar to cinnamon bread. I'll be shunned for saying it......but Yorktown is way better than Escudo or Dunhill Elizabethan Mixture. Sure yeah, Yorktown doesn't have perique. Take some Yorktown and add some perique at about 10 to 15%. Maybe even 20%. You'll have something in the same vane. Get Yorktown in bulk or tin. It doesn't matter as I've never noticed a difference between one or the other. I highly recommend it....Read More
