BLIND BONES
About Me:
I am a completely blind musician who is a beginning pipe smoker

G. L. Pease - Meridian 2oz
Somethings off with Meridian‘s mechanics
I really enjoy the flavors of this blend it reminds me of maple in a couple of different ways, the earthiness of the smoke reminds me of a maple forest after it has rained that wet loam smell, in another way it reminds me of Maple is on the sweetness note there seems to be this hint of Maple similar to those whiskeys that have been aged in maple casks instead of oak, if you are familiar with GL Pease blends and you have tried Maltese falcon Meridian is a lot like the falcon but to me it’s a little boulder and a little deeper in flavor. BUT like the title says something is off with the mechanics, I’ve never had a blend be so hard to pack and light and it had nothing to do with being too moist I even ended up letting it dry a little bit to make sure but it definitely wasn’t due to moisture. What I truly believe was the problem with lighting and packing was the way that this ribbon is cut I’ve never seen ribbons so long and so thick. They were like little ropes For flavor Meridian is definitely worth a try especially if you love English blends but for me due to the mechanics being off I probably won’t be getting this one again but will definitely be trying more blends from the dark Lord

Peterson - Elizabethan Mixture 50g
A grain of salt
Take this with a grain of salt if you’re a hard-core Virginia fan, as I am new to pipe smoking this is my first Virginia blend I started off with three English blends, Presbyterian, Maltese falcon and Loch Ness. Being new to pipe smoking I looked up reviews and forums discussing top Virginia blends and many agree that elizabethan mixture could be considered the standard off which you can judge other Virginia blends. So I picked up a 10 with my last smoking pipes order. Wow the tin note is great smells of figs and raisins. It does not need to be dried and packs well and behaves great in the bowl with few lights. Now time to talk about the smoke, I can appreciate it but I just can’t seem to get into it. The floral and raisin fruit notes are so soft on the pallet, if I did not retro hail most of my puffs I really didn’t get much flavoring. Again though take this with a grain of salt because I think I’m just a piper who prefers the bold smokiness of English blends over the mellow floral and fruity notes of Virginia blends. The tobacco was definitely top notch though as it burned super cool and if you’re worried about tongue bite at least for me and this blend I didn’t have any tongue bite from the Virginia’s. This also did not turn me off from ever trying a Virginia blend again will definitely be looking for other blends that are a little more boulder in the Virginia category

Drucquer & Sons - Loch Ness 100g
The mystery that is Loch Ness
My first two English blends were Presbyterian mixture and Maltese falcon. I loved Presbyterian but felt like Maltese falcon fell short of the hype it is given but due to the quality of tobacco I wanted to give GL Pease blends another try. So I bought a tin of Meridian and a tin of Loch Ness, popped the Loch Ness as soon as I got it today, and just wow what a complex mixture just from the tin note itself, of course it has that typical English blend smokiness with earth like undertones but what really catches the attention of your nose is the sweetness a raisin or other dark dried fruit. The crumble cake format makes it extremely easy to break down for the pipe and needed no drying time. Trying to describe the smoke is almost trying to describe to somebody what the mythical Loch Ness really looks like. The charring light and first third of the bowl are very earthy but with a noticeable sweetness, trying to pinpoint the exact type of fruit the sweetness is coming from is so complex and nuance, sometimes you taste raisin bread, other times it’s like a blackberry or a very dark grape like the type that is used for those really dark red wines that look more purple than red. This is definitely not a blend you’re going to get bored of quickly, I am absolutely going to be picking up some more when it is back in stock

G. L. Pease - Maltese Falcon 2oz
Melo Falcon
I just want to start by saying what quality tobacco, from the pack to the light you can tell this is well cultivated nightshade. But I will say if you’re looking for a robust flavor from the charring light and onward this isn’t the blend, it starts out very light and mellow and only builds up to about mild by the end of the bowl. The novel that this blend is named after has great pacing and that’s what this blend has as well. The flavors tasted when smoking the second third and final third of a bowl is truly where this tobacco shines it’s complexity builds into a dark leather with hints of Coco. The one surprise this tobacco for me was how much of a nicotine hit it has for something so mild and mellow. I would like to also mention that this blend slightly suffers from being overhyped, almost all new Piper‘s go onto tobacco forums or tobacco review YouTube channels looking for suggestions, this is one of those that is constantly posted about or talked about. Even while I’m posting this review currently smoking pipes is out of stock a testament to how well it is loved.. I will admit this is my first GL piece blend and as I will not be buying more of Maltese falcon anytime soon I will be definitely trying more of his other blends.

Presbyterian - Presbyterian 50g
Perfect English blend for the beginning Piper
FOr someone new to the tobacco pipe smoking scene I have to say I really love this as an introduction, the tin note is very woody and smokey with a hint of sweetness. While smoking it has a very nice mouth feel the smoke has body and the Hickory and Mesquite tin notes carry over. Maybe for someone who has been a pipe smoking for a while this might be seen as a one trick pony kind of blend the flavors are not overly complex but there solid and tasty great for a beginner just getting into the hobby. Will definitely be buying more Thanks again smokingpipes.com Team for the great service and great tobacco!!!
