It has some wonderful red Virginia with a more than a pinch of perique. VaPer smokers may be familiar with the tastes generated by the initial pulls. The flavors are married and consistent. The bowl builds as you smoke it. All that sweet grassy mist on the tip of your tongue. The orientals are in there somewhere but in the back seat and being talked over. If I could only smoke one blend forever, it would be this. The vinegar tartness never gets old. My only regret is that it is too expensive to daily. $50 for 8 oz is better than the 2 oz price, but still steep compared to Sutliff. They say you get what you pay for, and I agree, but I want to retire....Read More

I can't say I'd rank this under repurchasing, but it's worth trying at least once to try out a classic Lankford. However, Plum pudding slaughters this blend.

2009 Tin note of smoky spices, dark chocolate and mild ketchup. Tobacco is a 1/4-inch broken Krumble Kakes of mostly black and a dark brown with a little brown. Moisture content is ok, some pipe smokers will want to dry it a bit. The Krumble Kake rubs out with a little effort. Burns slow with many relights. The strength is mild to medium and nic is mild. No flavoring detected. Taste is medium and mostly consistent, with notes of mild smoky, sweet dark fruit, woody, spices, floral, sugar, savory, musty herbal hay, salty toasted bread, orange peel/zest, very earthy, sweet grass, dark cocoa, a mild tart citrus and mildly spicy background note, and a peppery retro. Virginia is leading with Latakia, Oriental/Turkish and Perique supporting. Room note is tolerable, and aftertaste is great....Read More

I really like this tobacco. It has somewhat of a sour taste going on that I really enjoy and is unique. I could see not liking it, but man it hits the spot for me.

This blend became one of my fav. I bought all the special editions as well. The first time I smoked I thought I had to try another bowl. Once I smoked a couple more bowls, this blend really stuck with me. This blend pairs well with any beverage, including coffee, whisky, and tea.

Different than most other Seattle Pipe offerings in that it doesn't feature latakia prominently, I've found this to be a reliable everyday Va/Per blend with sweet, deep virginias and fruit-driven perique combining to make captivating and complex experience. Highly recommended!

Virginia with a pinch

My disclaimer here is that I am an English/Balkan smoker first and foremost. I do enjoy Plum Pudding and so thought Mississippi River would be a similar experience. I can honestly say that it is a great blend, however it is a great Virginia blend. I think labeling it as English does it a disservice. I understand the technical aspect that it includes Latakia and therefore… but from first to last light I felt I was smoking a Virginia blend. A very rich, creamy, smooth, fruity Virginia blend but if you are looking for an English I personally like SPCs Potlatch and WildMan better....Read More
