With this blend the star of the attraction for me is the lemon Virginia. Most Englishes employ red Virginia but Lor Nelson has a very dry lemon variety. Dry like a white wine. For what it is (a bulk buy mix), Lord Nelson is among the most dependable, beautiful, and satisfying Balkans you could ever smoke. I have some every day, and it gets better every time I smoke it. I just bought another pound. It's the lemon Virginias that play so nicely with a very mellow, almost "fruity" latakia - fruity in the way that madagascan black pepper is fruity. There aren't many Balkans or even English blends using all lemon Virginias and no reds, so this is a hidden gem. One of the most unsung blends available, one of the best secrets there is. What a nice tangy English this is. Smooth, nuanced, and flavorful in a wonderfully balanced blend. And all this for less than half the price of the few blends that outdo it. Lord Nelson is priced like Johnny Walker Red, but it tastes like Lagavulin 8. Truly a nicotine-laden gem.

This has been a staple blend for me for some time, because I find I prefer my latakia as a presence, not a star. I suppose it is the nutty burley here that smooths out this blend, but the orientals, Virginias and the latakia all take turns vying for your attention.
