About This Pipe Tobacco

Many fans of the blends of C&D's long time collaborator, the late Bob Runowski, hail Morley's Best as his finest creation. An English blend of three Burleys — white, cubed, & rough cut — as well as Virginia flake and Cyprian Latakia; this cool and flavorful smoke is a perennial best seller.

Smokes cool and easy. Good flavors, nice development through the bowl. Interesting and very tasty. I'm not a huge fan of Latakia, but I enjoy this blend. I swear I got a note of roses from time to time. Latakia is pretty interesting, once you get past the wood smoke. I enjoy having this blend to change things up when I've had too much Haunted Bookshop Cake recently....Read More

smoking pipes rating 3.7

This is a VaBur of three diffeeent burleys, Latakia and a kiss of Virginia. It’s uniform in color but cut is varied. Aromas from the bag are nuttiness, faint woodiness , light smoke and a dusty warm sunshine feel
ing of a smell.

Sampled in a MM Missouri Pride.

Ah, VaBur. To me that’s codgerville - and a place I like to visit from time to time, but don’t want to live year round. First light brings a warm and naturally sweet flavor - kind of like a good oatmeal with a touch of honey. That’s quickly shaped up a bit with the smoky Latakia.

The Latakia here is really contained - or maybe restrained - it’s a burley first blend for sure. Made me think of deer season and football. There’s no pretentiousness here - this is a working man blend.

It makes a smoke thin as rice paper - but that thin smoke packs a wallop. While enjoying another bowl this morning and compiling my notes I inadvertently took a deep lung full of a drag and had a coughing fit of epic proportions.

It does pair nicely with with coffee. Both yesterday afternoon and this morning it was a natural friendship - being a solid counterpoint of natural tobacco flavor to balance with the syrupy sweet way I like my arabica.

It’s not super complex. I noted “not one note - but not a symphony”. I think that’s fair.

I wonder how it would be with a glass of Pinot noir? My guess is pretty nice.

My rating :3- this is good - I’d buy it on sale Or to get free shipping in an order

Well, we’ve made it 1/3 of the way on this journey, this being the 33rd of the 101 blends I am reviewing for this project.

I find it interesting that the next blend ( Snug Harbor , the 34th) is rated 3.7 , then we move to 3.8 rated and continue upward. That means a solid 2/3 of the C&D Bulk blends were rated 3.8 to 4.9 on April 1st. I am exited to see how those 2/3 compare to the first. So far this has been very fun, and I appreciate the kind comments.

Four weeks ago I bought an 8oz bulk bag and I transferred it into a latch-lock Ball jar when it arrived; around three weeks ago. When I did so, it had that typical smell of an English blend (nearly). What I am trying to figure out, now, is; over the past few days, when I open its jar, it has a strong, almost, fermenting fruit smell. I removed it all yesterday, spread it out, and allowed it to dry for near three, maybe four, hours. Because it did feel a bit moist. And I worried, just a bit, it needed a bit of drying. It still has that sweet fruity smell, now that it's drier, yet still tastes great. Just not sure what the tobacco is going through at the moment; regarding the smell upon opening the jar. So I give it 4.5 Stars because my Stars are given as such: 1-nope, never again __ 2-was OK, but not going to buy again __ 3-on the fence; buy again or not __ 4-good enough to always have on hand to smoke from time to time __5-yes, daily please. Currently I nearly have this daily, but I don't find myself always tempted to reach for it. So, this is one you may also find to be worthy of having around as well. It's smoke is extremely comfortable. And for me is reminiscent, again, of English blends...but more mellow, so to speak. I enjoy it nearly every morning, w/coffee, in a large diameter bowl such as my Savinelli 320's and 321's, or in Savinelli and Rossi 316's. Hardly ever requires tamping or relighting. Oh, and yes, I copied it's bookmark and added its link to my next to order list to buy more. *UPDATE* I still really enjoy this blend. It always pleases and offends none of my senses. I have found it to really shine from a Clay pipe though and intend to continue enjoying this one daily....Read More
