Nice, smooth VaPer

You get rich bready notes leading out, with a hint of spice and fruit. I think if it didn't have the Cavendish it would be a bit overbearing, so including a light amt really mellowed the blend out perfectly. Definitely a blend that could get better with age.

Easily one of the best tobaccos I've tried. The sweetness of the virginia and a little spice from the perique is smoothed out by the cavendish for no tongue bite. Smoked it mostly while duck hunting and being outdoors made it even better. My black lab even like the smell of the smoke. This is the second of the three new C&D-produced Nørding blends I’ve tried. All three are great but this is my favorite.

From the tin, this was sweet smelling and needed very little dry time. I gave it a medium gravity pack in both my meerschaum taster (an inexpensive AKB cherrywood) and my briar (the Ropp PipeSmokersDen 2024 Pipe of the Year). With a charring light and a quick true light, it burned nice and cool with no relights until late in the bowl.

VAPers are terrific and varied. Some are bold and even harsh, others are tasty and comforting. This falls into the latter category for me, along with blends like Elizabethan Mixture and Dorchester (though without the apricot flavor that somehow makes that one magical).

It’s sweet and light, with a full mouthfeel and creamy smoke (likely the Cav). The Perique expresses itself as sour fruit, not pepper. And the Virginias, like those in its sister blend, Pointer, are smooth and mature. Those who criticize C&D Virginias (I’m sometimes one of you) need look no further.

I usually like to spend a good amount of time with a tobacco before reviewing it, but with Labrador it was love at first smoke. I do not wish to turn this review into a tobacco politics rant, but with the recent changes in the pipe tobacco market I have decided to primarily purchase C&D produced blends moving forward. To that end, I've been looking for something to replace my beloved Escudo. Labrador has a similar flavor profile to that blend, but with more nuance in my opinion. It has the bready, fruity, and spicy elements that I love, but with an added toastiness that puts it over the top. That little bit of Cavendish adds some volume to the smoke as well and to be honest it's hard for me to imagine a better VaPer....Read More
