Nording freehand. It’s at its best in a well broken in pipe but tolerable in a brand new one. Good strength with no harshness. Likes to be smoked slowly for best flavor. I’m a fan.
Update: the tobacco is presented as a broken flake. It’s possible to smoke it just as it comes out of the pouch, pretty easy to load and pack but...Trying it as a more completely rubbed out flake resulted in better loading and packing with a more uniform burn. I went ahead and rubbed out about half a pouch having smoked the first half unrubbed. It made a positive difference as far as uniformity of burning and smoked all the way to the bottom if the bowl. For me, rubbing it out is a better prep. method. Read Less

In addition to the accolades already noted, I am averaging 90 to 105 minute smokes, in a Sav 114KS Billiard as an example. This laudable slow burn rate is very pleasing.

Excited to get this pouch and sample the goods. Lots of positive reviews. Out of the pouch the tobacco appears very moist and heavily cased. Not a surprise, the pouch is inexpensive and burley... it's going to be good and cased. The cut is a chunky b... Read More
roken flake. Smells fantastic, cocoa and nutty and absolutely delicious. Pinching a big bunch together the tobacco stays in a tight ball. Too moist? It looks like it could turn into a goopy mess... but it actually smokes just fine (like Burley does). However, drying it out for 30+ minutes does improve its smoking properties. True to its Burley base, it burnes slow and smooth with a consistent baritone woodsy boom of flavor. Not so much nutty as it is smokey dark roasted espresso, molasses, cocoa and faintly cigar like. None of the typical young walnutty sour sharpness you get with the C&D Burley blends. The virgina plays a supporting role, softening the body of the smoke with a wee bit of hay and sweetness, but stays far in the background. Required very slow and deliberate cadence to make it sing. It pipes on the hot side if pushed but won't bite. That'll do Amphora, that'll do. Read Less

Product: Amphora Burley 1.75oz
Un tabaco serio, con un toque de aroma suave y muy rico. El regusto es típico de burley, con un aroma pronunciado y notablemente grato. ¡A disfrutar con los versos "I celebrate myself, and sing myself..."!

A decent blend, perhaps the best bang for the buck. Add a touch of Perique and you’ll have a nice Bur/per bit on its own is a great blend
This is surprisingly good for a pouch tobacco.

I have always wanted to try this. Moisture is perfect... comes in what appears to be shredded flake form. This is really good for a pouch burley. This has a light fruity/cocoa topping and not the typical strong cocoa/anise that you encounter with bur... Read More
ley. Of course it has a requisite toasted oats nuance that burley possesses, but that fruity-sweet topping kind of counters any nutty, walnut like flavor we typically taste in burley. It's light in body and nicotine. If you like a walnut/cocoa/anise/toasted oats flavor, this isn't the burley you want. If however, you like a fruity/cocoa/toasted oats flavor, this will fit the bill. The PH is neutral and so it won't bite, burns cool. Nicotine is 1 out of 5. Read Less

nd is very close to Stokkebye Toasted Burley, in appearance, texture, aroma, and taste. The only real difference is an addition of dark fired Kentucky in this Amphora which is actually rather pleasant. It’s as though Toasted Burley and Old Dark Fired have been blended together.

I only smoke Burley (blends), and without any flavorings, toppings, etc. In fact, I almost exclusively smoke C&D Burley Flake #1 and sometimes, Triple Play. I think I've tried them all, for years in fact. But my very specific taste always leads me ba... Read More
ck to BF#1. Yet, disheartened as I've become in my Burley adventures expeditions, I do get excited every time I find (or someone recommends) a possibly new pure Burley blend I've not tried. To my total amazement, I am loving this Amphora Burley Blend! The broken flakes are very similar to the C&D Burley Flake #1, the moisture is ideal, the burning perfect and the taste, simply great. It does have a bit of a rather noticeable and quite lingering taste in the mouth, probably from the casing, but that's ok. Burley fans, go try this smoke.
Update (07/07/2019): I've been smoking this beautiful tobacco in different pipes, to further appraise it. First, let me say, that the said lingering taste has subsided quite a bit. I think it was just in the first bowl, where it was pronounced. This is truly a bready-chocolaty delicious burley blend. The flakes are just great, as I said, very similar to the C&D Burley Flake #1. I love it. The burning is consistent, even in every respect, including the consistency of the taste profile throughout the bowl. It burns to white ashes all the way, and with very few relights. The natural and sweet chocolaty taste in this burley is nothing short of remarkable, and it comes from the Virginia. I must say that such "focused" sweetness can be a bit too much after the halfway point of the bowl. I would have preferred a tad less of this sweetness. The Kentucky is noticeable too, perfect. The room note is pleasant, truly tolerable. This is a fantastic blend, and it is now part of my very exclusive list of pipe tobaccos. Smaller bowls will let the Virginias more pronounced, bigger bowls will feature the Burleys to a greater extend. No toppings, just pure delight. The last pipe I tried with this blend was a BBB billiard. Read Less

This is the archetypal burley. It's pleasant, a little nutty, not in your face. It doesn't demand your attention and sticks around like an old friend.

Nice Burley-foreard blend, quite a casing of chocolaty and molasses compared to MB HH Burley flake for my taste. Besides that Earthy, rich and satisfying. Good pricing as well. Recommended!!

Product: Amphora Burley 1.75oz
I tried the new Amphora Virginia blend a few months ago, and I was pretty impressed with it. As a Virginia lover, I found it to be a very solid blend, though not the best VA out there. With this in mind, when Amphora came out with their burley blend,... Read More
I had to try it. I also like many burley and burley-forward blends. Amphora Burley comes in a 50 gram pouch as a chunky, broken flake. Moisture content was just about right. Appearance was a medium-dark brown and fairly uniform overall. It was easy to load and was not difficult to light. A few re-lights were required, but not really a problem for me. Produced plenty of smoke. I was told the room note was rather pleasant. I tried this in a couple of briars, a MM Country Gentleman, and a meerschaum. Good in all of them! In my judgement, there is plenty of flavor in this blend. The burley clearly stands out, of course. There was the expected nutty, slightly chocolatey notes, and overall just a good, moderately hearty tobacco flavor. I could detect no obvious topping. The Virginia stays pretty far in the background. A bit of sweetness, but no hay, grass or citrus for me here. This blend is fairly similar to OTC blends like Prince Albert, Carter Hall, etc., but I think the Kentucky plays a subtle but vital role in this blend. It lends some spiciness that the typical OTCs don't have. But I still think it falls into the OTC “yer gramp's smoke” genre. Overall, this blend is not up there with Mac Baren's HH Burley, or Solani or Wessex flakes. But it is on the mild side of medium in strength and taste. Not too much nicotine (at least for me). It is well-balanced, flavorful, and could be an all-day smoke. Reasonable price, too. Recommended. Read Less

me of one of my fav discontinued blend, also from Mac Baren, Norwood. I buy 98% of all my pipes & tobacco from Smokingpipes, so when I looked up tinned tobacco in the Burley family over a year or so ago I noticed A new blend come up in the Mac Baren line. I had never tried it before, but being a Burley junkie I ordered. When it arrived It was love immediately. I ordered several tins and all was wonderful until that dark day when I stumbled upon a very disheartening bit of info.. Norwood had been discontinued for awhile & apparently SP was just selling the last of this beautiful Burley blend that was in stock. I had fallen in love with a quickly disappearing treasure, & the irony was disheartening. After searching for so long for a Burley blend that was lighter than my Burley flakes that I am obsessed with, but incredibly tasty & easier to pack on the go, & then finding it, getting hooked, then having it ripped from my rotation at just about the same time, well I was more than a little disappointed. So I went on the search & was having no luck. Symphony was similar but to sweet & it burned a tad wet, with no strength, Golden extra though similar, was just not going to cut it.. So after burning through a few more & pretty much losing hope I saw that Amphora was releasing a Burley blend, so I ordered, not expecting much, but damn was I ever surprised! The Amphora is, so far, even better! This is really excellent & it has everything a Burley lover would want it to have. It is a broken flake, that has s wonderful (tin/bag) note that will make your stomach growl. It takes to the flame very well with little drying, & the taste & creaminess of the smoke is top notch.. This is def better than my dearly departed Norwood, & my rotation is now back to revolving in the harmoniously flavorful way I remember, but only better.. In all seriousness though, this is a excellent broken flake of top notch Burley goodness all in a neat little pouch that I personally am enjoying everyday now. Haven’t found one thing negative about this offering other than it doesn’t come in a larger size or in bulk. Def worth a try.. It’s one of my top 3 blends & if you appreciate Burley or if your just addicted to Burley like myself, this should be on your list to try.. I doubt you will be disappointed.. Excellent... Read Less

s is just noticeable.
The Burley is robust. Oily leather with hints of nuts, cocoa, and an almost floral note when retro-haled. Later in that bowl, I get a little of that dairy farm note prevalent with strong blends containing dark fired or cigar leaf.
Only the faintest hint of harshness on the tongue, but certainly not bite. I was also puffing madly. Vitamin N punching in just beyond medium for me.
This could be an all day smoke for more experienced pipe smokers.
Room note says- This is a blend for the porch. haha
