About This Pipe Tobacco

Now in its fourth generation of producing fine pipe tobaccos, the Stokkebye family tradition began with Erik Peter Stokkebye, born in 1855, and continues to this day with bespoke blends, many paying homage to important dates in their family history.

1931 Flake honors the birth year of the second Erik Peter, grandson of the family patriarch, a larger than life person full of energy and excitement for his craft. His favorite tobacco was navy flake, and 1931 is a perfect example of his passion. It strikes a natural balance between superior Burleys and mature Virginias by using a small measure of Black Cavendish.

This has been in my top 2 of blends that I reach for the most. If you like your virginia's, give it a try.

Burley fans will like this tobacco. I'm not a fan, but enjoyed this tin.

Moist dark flakes that cube and rub out well. Some might want to let it dry or an hour or more. I am able to smoke it immediately.

I find that for me, I enjoyed it best in an 80s, bent bulldog. This gave me a go
od 40 minute or more smoke. Also smoked it in an XL02 and it was great in that size bowl as well....Read More
My Capstan Blue Replacement

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 1.76oz
I bought a few tins of this a year ago and stuck it in the cellar. Was thinking about opening a tin of Capstan this week and opened a tin of this instead - OMG, so glad I did that! For almost half the price, this blend hits all my buttons for a great Va/Bur. May put all of my aged Capstan Blue on a bid site and buy a couple sleeves of this! Not sure what this was like fresh, but with a year on it, sweet-honey-citrus-bready-raisin perfection right out of the tin!...Read More
Dusty Library with a Hint of Pear

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 1.76oz
I'm transported to a dusty library. Green shaded table lamps adorn mahogany tables and a full sized globe sits in the corner. Books by Einstein, Newton, and Darwin are strewn about with dogeared pages. A note of pear wafts through the room. A great every day smoke.
Almost 5/5

This is a great flake it rubs out easily and burns with few relights. The scent is amazing just a great strait Virginia smell with a slight sweet/fruity topping that’s barely noticeable. The taste is an earthy/grassy/stone fruit Virginia. I love this flake but I can’t help but feel something is missing and it’s possibly age because the tin I received only had a few months age on it. I’ll be buying another few tins some for now and some to cellar for a year or two....Read More
