About This Pipe Tobacco

Now in its fourth generation of producing fine pipe tobaccos, the Stokkebye family tradition began with Erik Peter Stokkebye, born in 1855, and continues to this day with bespoke blends, many paying homage to important dates in their family history.

1931 Flake honors the birth year of the second Erik Peter, grandson of the family patriarch, a larger than life person full of energy and excitement for his craft. His favorite tobacco was navy flake, and 1931 is a perfect example of his passion. It strikes a natural balance between superior Burleys and mature Virginias by using a small measure of Black Cavendish.

My Capstan Blue Replacement

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 1.76oz
I bought a few tins of this a year ago and stuck it in the cellar. Was thinking about opening a tin of Capstan this week and opened a tin of this instead - OMG, so glad I did that! For almost half the price, this blend hits all my buttons for a great straight VA. May put all of my aged Capstan on a bid site and buy a couple sleeves of this! Not sure what this was like fresh, but with a year on it, sweet-honey-citrus-bready-raisin perfection right out of the tin!...Read More

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 1.76oz
This is a great flake it rubs out easily and burns with few relights. The scent is amazing just a great strait Virginia smell with a slight sweet/fruity topping that’s barely noticeable. The taste is an earthy/grassy/stone fruit Virginia. I love this flake but I can’t help but feel something is missing and it’s possibly age because the tin I received only had a few months age on it. I’ll be buying another few tins some for now and some to cellar for a year or two....Read More
Not exactly Capstan Blue but real close

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1931 Flake 1.76oz
The 5 star and 4 star reviews already given already given say it all. I see a slight difference between this virginia and Capstan but for the price difference I can't say which I prefer. This virginia perhaps is a bit more citrus slightly more orange peel in flavor but slightly less sweet notes than Capstan Blue. This virginia takes more effort to keep lit but relights don't bother me if the taste is great and this flake has the great taste of a top quality virginia. Maybe I should give it a 5 star it's a close call. But all this said I love it and for the price it is hard to beat: I will be buying more for sure....Read More

One of my first quality tobacco experiences and now the bar. I could smoke this all day and never be bored or disappointed. Comparable to capstan blue flake. Almost interchangeable even, with a touch more sweet and touch less cream. Excellent blend that made me a Virginia enthusiast. Will try to always have some in rotation. Try it....Read More

Reminds me of Erinmore, slightly more floral topping. Smooth and delicious.
