Fans of Cornell and Diehl may not be familiar with William Serad, but they may know his work. A longtime friend of C&D founder Craig Tarler, the two were frequent collaborators. Serad is responsible for creating several classic blends such as Cross-Eyed Cricked and Red Carpet. William was also a friend of the rabbi Ira Stone, who loved Burley, Oriental and Perique mixtures and asked Serad to put together some blends for him. Those blends eventually became the Hebraica series, each featuring the rabbi's favored components. Each blend in the series was named by Stone, inspired by the language and spirituality of Jewish tradition.
Or L'yom, named after the Hebrew for Daylight, is composed of a base of choice red Virginias, Dark Burley, and toasted black Cavendish sprinkled with Orientals and Perique. This easy-smoking mixture is mellow enough to be an all-day smoke while always offering an engaging and complex flavor profile. In 2022, Cornell and Diehl established an exclusive partnership with 31 Farms to provide smokers with access to 100% St. James Perique, now included in every blend that contains the unique varietal.

Update: Some of the most entrancing pipe smoking experiences I've had have been with this blend. It's just wonderful!
This has become one of my top blends in my rotation. I’m primarily an English guy, but when I want a break from Latakia, this is my go-to. It’s just great! The sweetness of the Virginia is well complimented by the sour/spice/piquancy of the perique with some body from the burley. The orientals add some zest and extra dimension of flavor, adding to the complexity. The various flavors are all always present, but my attention shifts between them. This is absurdly delicious. It's exceedingly mild, just a tiny bit of spiciness. Get's a little annoying towards the end of the bowl, but is utterly delicious and has a great room note.

in the background. They are just a hint and enough to accent the other tobaccos. The perique gives you a little bit of that tongue tingle and the rest all marry wonderfully together. Can be pushed a bit with no bite but does tend to get bitter if you push to hard. Packs & burns easily even in a massive bowl (Tsuge Tasting 23). Strength is very mild and the flavor is as well. If your a "lat bomb" or "burley" kind of guy this probably won't be for you. If you're looking for something mild and easy with coffee, tea or water, that you can go through bowl after bowl without getting mouth fatigue, definitely try this one. my experience - the Cavendish is definitely present in every bowl. Now I can distinctly taste the melon tang of the Turkish, and won’t be shocked to discover in future bowls the musk of the Perique that no doubt contributes to the delightfully stout pepper in the retrohale. Given a chance and some attention, the pure taste and complexity of this blend really does shine like the Light of Day. In fact, I think Aaron could have burned this stuff in the tabernacle instead of frankincense and G-d would have been just as pleased. Wish they carried this in bulk!
