Basic is Good

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1855 3.5oz
It is true that this is a basic Virginia blend, but that doesn't mean that it isn't a good blend. This hits all the points of an excellent straight Virginia.
Great Simplicity

1855 is a simple Virginia, easy to love. A 1 yr old tin was mildly sweet with grassy notes; my 3 yr tin was much sweeter, even in a new pipe! It's a thicker ribbon cut that burns easy and bites only when smoked too fast.
UPDATE: a 5 yr tin is a worl... Read More

I really enjoy the light taste of this blend and the way it develops down the bowl. It showed me a depth that sometimes you can't find out of a stronger Virginia. Let me clarify this. When you smoke a heavy dark Virginia you come to a point after 2/3... Read More
of a bowl that it goes flat at least to my taste. This one starts out light and builds all the way to the bottom. and when you get there it is like a caramel sweetness which is worth the price of admission. Go slow and let it build, a great smoke with a morning coffee or tea to warm up your palate for heavier smokes later in the day. Read Less

This is an extremely pleasant and good blend of Virginias. It smells and burns good. It is mild and doesn't give you any tongue bite. Will buy more.

A very bright, hayish blend that burns smooth and effortlessly. Cut is perfect, more of a ready rub than ribbon to my eye. Can be smoked straight from the tin, but is much more round and smooth with a few months of aging.

This straight matured virginia ready-rubbed packs and burns beautifully, and exhibits no tongue bite. Enticing natural sweetness, light grass, baked-good notes, building creaminess, medium-bodied, exquisite room note...

Excellent

The smell in the tin is great, excellent all around. You don't need to be "experienced" to appreciate this.

A good tobacco, I generally smoke straight virginias and this one is up there for me. My tin was perfectly dried, I do taste subtle vanilla in it, I'm wondering if it's lightly cased... doesn't matter, a good pipe baccy.
Great and delicious

I got a sample of this tobacco with my other orders and was greatly and pleasantly surprised at how good this tobacco was for me. It also reminded my grandfather of the tobacco his father used to smoke, all in all, I highly recommend this tobacco.

This blends beautifully with cavendish. They perk each other up and provide a pleasant spiciness. It's also tasty for a pinch of "chaw" when you don't have the space for a smoke.

This came on the scene several years back with a lot of hype. It's at best an OK Virginia. There are a lot better out there for the money. The line seems to have failed, as there are a lot of vendors discounting the 1855 products. Basically just a mi... Read More

This came up on my list of milder blends and I decided to give it a try. The tin note is sweet tith little overtone. On my first pinch I was surprise to find 1855 needed a lot of rubbing out to behave in the pipe bowl. The smoke itself is wheaty w... Read More
