About This Pipe Tobacco

Bailey's Front Porch is a delightfully mellow English blend featuring Burleys, bright Virginias, Latakia, as well as an ideal touch of Perique thrown in for a dash of spice. It's an amiable C&D accompaniment for sitting on the porch on those late summer evenings.

Hmm.... (*Updated*)

Product: Cornell & Diehl Bailey's Front Porch 2oz
Hmm...wasn't all that impressed with this. I just opened a jar after it sat for two years. It was kept in a section of storage for blends I didn't care for upon arrival; giving them some time before revisiting. And I am still not overly excited for it. It's between Average and Good for me. So I give it 3.5★ for now, as I'll need more time with it. I mean it is 26°F outside right now...and it is morning. Not quite the "sitting on the porch on those late summer evenings" time as suggested in its description. I smoked this back-to-back with Byzantium, because the two had very similar tin/jar notes. And, at the moment, I prefer Byzantium over this. (*Update*) This one is continually growing on me. Beginning to love the taste/flavors, mildness, comfort, and enjoyment and I always find myself reaching for it. So....I've bumped my rating up to 4.0★ and again, up to 4.5★. And for wanting more, in storage, I put its link onto my "next order" list....Read More

Bailey’s Front Porch
Smoking Pipes rated 4.1

Sampled in a MM Missouri Pride.

Typical English blend appearance with even ribbons of hues from tan to black; bag aroma includes notes of leather, saddle soak or mink oil , smoke, hay, a sense of dust.
Composition is Virginia, Latakia, Perique, Burley.

I had a bit of trepidation starting back up the reviews with an English, mainly because Jase I just spent a week smoking blends that had heavy Latakia and dark fired components and I was afraid that I may not appreciate any more subtle aspects of a blend - luckily I was wrong.

By now it’s clear I’m an avowed English blend lover and this one kicks off with great notice that it’s a great example of one variant of the genre. It’s soft. Maybe some would call it an aromatic English, sometimes I see the phrase American English. Whatever you want to call it , BFP is a nice full serving of burley and Latakia , with nicely metered dosages of sweet Virginia and spicy Perique deftly applied.

It makes an oily , semi transparent smoke, and it has a nice room note. As I enjoyed a bowl with a glass of Pinot Noir, I tried to determine what image the blend evoked for me - and I settled on a nice walk through the woods on the backside of our property. It’s got a “go for a walk” kinda vibe.

Sometimes English blends leave just the tip of my tounge feeling like it’s spiced - not so much here. It’s judicious in its profile to be a clever little sipper.

My rating : 5

Bailey's Front Porch vs Epiphany

Product: Cornell & Diehl Bailey's Front Porch Bulk
This is a really good, tasty, American English. Bailey's is sweet, oily and smokey, with just a touch of plummy spice. It tastes like there's a lightly applied sweet anisette topping, like Meletti. Halfway through that topped sweetness subsides and the oily burley steps forward, holding onto and occasionally dispensing a subtle anise flavor. It's lighter in body than Epiphany, though not what I would consider a 'light mixture', and it has more flavor (definitely sweeter), thanks to the use of varied VA leaf. The Latakia is moderate and in good relation to the oily, tannic and earthy Burley, though there is slightly more Latakia in this than in Epiphany. There's less perique in this too, but beautifully proportionate. The finish lingers with a creosote or flinty tingle from the latakia. This is a good late-afternoon tobacco, before or after supper. Nicotine is 2 out of 5....Read More
