Not bad, just boring

Out of all the English blends I've had, whether I liked them or not, they all had characteristics that set them apart. Smooth English does not. Is it bad? No. Is it good? Also, no. If you like pipe tobacco that's just...... there, then this is it.

Sampled in a MM Missouri Pride.
This blend left me wanting. Yes, it’s has a nice warm and prominent burley and the Latakia is well applied giving a good leathery taste - but no spice. It’s called “smooth” English - it’s smooth all right - no high notes , just rhythm section.
This reminds me of something but I cannot pin it down. I can tell you it’s nice with earl grey tea. If anything it makes me think of rainy days.
Really wish this had some kind of “pop” or “oomph” but I’m guessing that’s exactly not what the blender was going for when they designed it to be smooth.
For me , C&D has several better englishes. Sweet English for example has the same components plus Virginia and is much more to my liking.

glish sort of way. This is a brutal approach to break-in and taste testing but why not. I’ve been a pipe smoker for over fifty years and have tried all sorts of crazy things. For my money, Savinelli, like Peterson, has never made a bad pipe and in a similar vein, C&D hasn’t missed the mark on blending. This is a good and tasty smoke with Latakia presence but not enough to make you wish you’d tried something else. I’ve got a few ounces to smoke and I could change my mind but so far this is a happy experience. I’ll recommend this blend as a solid introduction to Latakia and English blends in general.
