About This Pipe Tobacco

Reminiscent of the original Revelation said to be the favorite of Albert Einstein, C&D's Epiphany is an adroit melding of Virginias, Burleys, Latakia, and Perique in unified harmony.

Product: Cornell & Diehl Epiphany 2oz
There are those days when one reaches outside of the rotation for something else. I bagged this one in 2019 and put it in a jar recently. It was bulk. The componentry is ribbon cut for the most part with a low key English aroma. I did not detect any casing on the sniff or the bowl. Kind of hard to get a feel for things until mid-bowl, and it was an adequately pleasurable smoke and remained in the background, There was nothing to press the case for or against. I will reach again for it when the time comes....Read More
Great blend

Product: Cornell & Diehl Epiphany 2oz
This is actually my favorite blend to this point, not only from an overall standpoint, but as a blend that can be an all day smoke. I’m sure it will be surpassed one day, as I have only been smoking a handful of years and have much to try yet. However reaching that honor, for however long, stands on its own. I would be shocked if this had any topping, as some here are suggesting. It’s as slight as it can be if so, but I’m not getting it. As many will know, this blend was created to mirror Albert Einstein’s favorite, Revelation. So if a genius like Einstein said it was a favorite, I must be on to something! Enjoy....Read More
Nothing like the sutliff version

Product: Cornell & Diehl Epiphany 2oz
While I knew it wasn't going to be a match of the sutliff match, I didn't think it would be this terrible. The 1st third is ok the flavor is decent but after that it taste like I'm smoking dottile and ash. I tried it in a variety of chamber sizes and shapes and its just a no from me dawg.
Absolutely horrid

Product: Cornell & Diehl Epiphany Bulk
I want to preface my review by saying that I base this off of the bulk version which I know is often not as good as the tinned version and often not as consistent in my experience. I have probably smoked close to 100 blends now and this was by far the worst that has ever touched my pipe…I have never had bite before and thought it was just a fantasy but upon lighting this I got something akin to a super hot vinegar coming through and it didn’t light great. I liked to never got it lit as it was so acrid and bit the heck out of my tongue and mouth and I have smoked some harsh stuff and never had it happen before. I want to believe that I got some bad stuff and that either the tin must taste nothing like the bulk, there are some people that like some very disgusting tobaccos, or I got a batch that should have been used as pesticide as it is entirely unsmokable. I fervently cleaned my pipe after this as if there was a demon in it that had to be exorcised as I don’t want the foul creature popping it’s head back through the stem…This is number 1 on my bottom 100 list by a long shot....Read More

Epiphany
Smoking Pipes Rated 3.9

This ribbon cut English blend is mottled brown and black, perfect moisture and has the anticipatory aromas of leather, cedar, iodine, smoke and hay/grass. Components are Virginia , Latakia, Perique , burley.

Sampl
ed in a MM Missouri Pride.

I found this blend to be less an Epiphany and more a Conundrum. It’s established I skew towards English blends ; I love me some Latakia and Perique - but not once did I have an “A-Ha!” moment. And it’s not for lack of giving it a chance - I actually smoked through this sample deeper than any reviewed so far. I smoked it for a couple days. Cobs, briar and meerschaum. It’s just … adequate - nothing special.

It’s “warm” upon light up and what’s striking is how you both can detect all the compañera, but none outshines the other. While one could day “well that means it’s balanced “ my inclination is that’s it’s almost too balanced - to the point of blandness.

It does have a nice aroma, both in a bag and as smoke in the room. It does smoke easily and mindlessly. But it’s just … there.

It’s almost as if it’s really good but this is aged and lost it’s “oomph”.

So yeah. A conundrum. It’s not bad enough to warrant a 2 , but giving it a 3 feels charitable, when looking at my guidelines.

One thing I need to do is smokenitnside by side with Sutliff Revelation Match (which I have a lb of but haven’t tried).

Anyway - no doubt this blend has its fans among those who like smoother milder blends. For me though it’s not exactly one I think I need a lot of in my cellar.

My rating : 3

This is the 46th of 101 C&D bulk blends I am reviewing for this project.
