eppery taste. Smoking it a little hot will produce more of the peppery spice. Smoking it low and slow will bring out more of the sweetness. I knocked a half a point off because it does seem a little harsh towards the end of the bowl. The room note goes hand and hand with the flavor. Sweet, fruity and mellow. Overall great blend!!!! ng Albert's name associated with it drew me close.
I purchased 8 ounces bulk, and that was not enough! C&D hit a home run with this mixture! It smokes nice and cool, and evenly. There's nothing but white ash when your done. The Perique contributes a nice, and not over powering peppery taste and the Burleys and Virginians are there for the balance. However, I do love Latakia, and I'm kind of missing it in the taste. When examining the blend I'm not seeing a whole lot of it either, but who cares! This is my everyday smoke! Read Less

moke. Smooth. It's not like smoking a cig, but it really hits the spot for me when I get that cigarette craving. Having compared the bulk and tin versions side by side, for me the bulk is 5 stars, and the tin version is even better. The tin version has a stronger aroma and flavor, but the price of the bulk version makes up for it. Will definitely be ordering more. I highly recommend giving this blend a try. Read Less

s could be the blandest tobacco I've ever tried my life.
Unbeknownst to me I tried it a second time when I had something going on in my brain was scattered and going a million miles an hour. That's when the tobacco shine through the blend was perfect all the suddenly all these at notes and taste I did not get out of the 1st bowl were present so I tried this 2 more times smoked it when I was calm and normal they're pretty boy and tobacco smoked it when I was stressed or thinking intently about something and it was one of the best tobaccos I've ever tried now I know this is just my opinion but this is the way I use it some people say always a daily smoke I have it as a situational smoke if I'm stressed on a long drive aggravated at life this just seems to be 1 of the best tobaccos ever.
So in my opinion if you haven't tried this tobacco get a chin and try it when you're stressed you'll find it's a delight or if you did try it in you weren't stressed at all find it a little bland go back and try it again when you're not in the best of moods or your mind going a 100 miles an hour and it just has something in it that makes everything slow down and you've understand that tobacco and you understand your problems better I don't know why I don't know how just my personal opinion Read Less

being more a fan of unadulterated tobacco flavor. With few exceptions, my experience with aros were that they smell delicious but tend to be wet and therefore bite, and no matter how inviting the tin aroma and room note, the taste was often a crude distortion. Enough said.. Fast forward to this blend - given it’s from C&D, a house proving time and time again to offer well-executed blends, built upon an unwavering foundation of high-quality tobacco - How could I not give it a try?
I bought a few ounces in bulk, and upon receipt of the bag, I noticed that there appeared to be varying colors of dusty brown, with only a small amount of blackish Latakia and Perique specs to be found. I could smell a dark cherry note, but also a very natural tobacco smell. Very ragged cut-Burley form the base by volume, with what appear to be broken flakes of VA, smelling more pungently of dark fruit – not sure if the topping was applied to the whole blend or if concentrated in one or more constituents. Small Latakia tips and bits of Perique formed the darker islands in the dusty brown body. I was intrigued and quickly loaded up a wide and tall Rhodesian, which I find to suit well for burley-based American style blends. On the charring light, a dark cherry note and a bit of campfire from the Latakia hit my nostrils. After true light this leveled off to the sandy nutty flavor of the Burley, with added complexity from the slightly sweet stewed cherry topping. The first third progressed relatively consistently in this way. I found myself tasting the Latakia, but only as a smokey edge to the burley - I would miss it if not present, but not the focal point in any way. At mid-bowl, Latakia gave way to Perique. The flavor was now as if Latakia had been infused into the smoke, but I no longer noticed new crisp flashes. The cherry top note seemed to give way to apricot, as the raisin notes of Perique entered the frame to meld with the C&D sandy Burley. Near the end of the bowl, the topping became more and more muted, and the strength and body of the smoke markedly stronger (along with the N which had been steadily increasing since the half-way point). The finish was strong and reasonably dry, but with duller individual notes to identify, and a very slight cigarette feel. When I threw my hat in, I was surprised to see a good bit more dottle topple out than I would have thought was left.
Overall, I really enjoyed this tobacco and its quality nutty Burleys, and tellingly, I felt the need to revisit this same blend later that evening (something I rarely do). If you like American blends, I recommend trying Epiphany, even if you are strongly anti-aromatic, as it may show you that there is less to fear and more to enjoy than you may have realized. Similarly, Kramer’s Cary Grant has shown me that I may have written off aromatics to soon. Keep an open mind and give it a try. As for Einstein, I can’t claim that the first bowl sparked in me his genius - I be still dumb as you think I is - but I plan to work on it in earnest, as I move through the remaining ounces of my order. surprise. I’m a Burley lover and well aware that some of it can really bite. This isn’t one of the biters and in a new pipe, it would reveal itself immediately if it were. Having laid the foundation here, I compounded the situation by purchasing another Peterson Army bit, this one their largest billiard. Given a patient approach to smoking the first few bowls, I was rewarded with easy to break in pipes and little displeasure. As a matter of fact, the tobacco is great and I consider it to be an excellent choice for break in. It lights easily, burns cool and produces a plethora of warm rich flavor top to bottom. Not into dissecting the flavor based on components just en enjoyable rich smoke that’s easy on the tongue and friendly to the nose. Wife even likes it. Moisture level was just right on a fresh tin and the occasional presence of unrubbed chunks was sort of fun to deal with. There’s a subtle sweetness here along with the rich smoke. In my opinion, a masterful blend. I ordered a tin wth second pipe too so I have enough on hand to firmly establish or reject this in time...think I’ll like it as it’s an easy enjoyable smoke. Even though I’ve been a pipe smoker for over fifty years, I’ve never smoked Revelation so I’m not fit to compare and contrast the two. As an opinion though I’ll suggest that Albert would’ve approved as this in my opinion is a fine blend and definitely worth trying...might even help you earn that degree in physics...who knows? the nose, you get that strong tinge I suppose comes from the burley. After that settles the tobacco consistently offers an earthy full bodied smoke in addition to a slight sweetness that make this tobacco unique so far. This is more of a fuller stronger smoke and I tried it at just the right time. I have been currently sampling Virginia's after moving from aromatics. ul, nice Burley front, with a very tasty and well balanced backdrop of light Lat and Perique, completed by lightly sweet Va. As odd as it may sound, I find this to be a very ‘friendly’ tobacco; It packs easily, it’s well rounded and behaves very nicely all through the experience. Also, I tend to be a just a tad on the fast side (1 med size bowl 45min-1hr), but Epiphany has yet to bite me.
From the char light on, this burns evenly and cool. On the first bowl I may have re-lit it twice after the initial char and true light. I could get used to this mix, and why not? Hands-down in my rotation. Could very easily be an all-day. Update: upped rating to 5 Stars after ~3oz. This blend is superb. Read Less

and medium taste quality with great harmony in between ingredients but never abandoning its potent burley dominating character. Latakia will never be a star in here, just a distant note summing the typical smoky personality circumventing the potent round body from nuttyness of burley. It keeps astringent, dry sour-sweet and a little fruity.
Perique brings a piquant touch (especially in the tongue and the retrohale) and virginias adds a slight sweety and grassy taste on the palate.
Epiphany has medium strength in nicotine too, so if youre not accostumed, take it easy or it may knock you out.
Nice blend, very proportioned and synchronized, quite concise and easy going. Read Less

wn really find if this blend. The thing is, the strong lat and English blends are great. But like with billy budd, they are to tobaccos that almost demand attention. I like to smoke while I read, write, study, or talk with someone. A tobacco like epiphany is a great compliment to this. It ADDS, to the enjoyment of what you are doing. A stronger tobacco subtracts from this. Billy budd demands your attention. Epiphany is complex enough to stand in it's own, but subtle and gentle enough to add to whatever you are doing. I am see why Einstein smoked a version of this. When I want to just sit and enjoy my pipe and do nothing else, epiphany works well, but billy works better. If I want to sit and write or watch a movie with my pipe and a good glass of bourbon, I'll reach for epiphany. This has finally decided my long search for an all day, very day tobacco staple. Little hokey that it was Einsteins favorite mainly because I study physics as well so in sure to catch some good natured flack from that, but it is definitely the choice for me. Read Less

have had zero complaints about the room note, and it was even preferred over the LM, which I think smells and tastes as any tobacco should. It's a decent strength, with enough muscle to appease my more English enjoying taste buds, but light enough that I can smoke 4-5 bowls a day. If smoked fast it can bite a bit and is a bit harsh when exhaled through the nose compared to the creaminess of nightcap which has no angry or harsh bones in its body. I am really enjoying this mix e cause it is cheap, smokes good, and has a certain complexity to it. It's not a subtle complexity, but as I smoke bowl after bowl throughout the day it changes itself. It's a bit spicy, so depending on what I ate it can taste down right horrible. For instance stay away from super acidic candies like gummy worms or sour patch kids. Those foods torch your rate buds and this tobacco ends up tasting totally sour and rank. In the morning it's lighter and delicate enough to not overwhelm as the first pipe of the day. It's not as pleasant as good morning pipe, but it's not something that wil overwhelm like nightcap smoked first thing. During the day it's what I can only describe as a working mans tobacco. It's not smooth and creamy, but is crisp so works well to accompany a certain activity. At the end of the day it takes on a flavor that reminds me of a natural wrapper cigar. It's not bad, I enjoy cigars, but I do wish it had some of the lower deeper notes and less crisp spice. I'm giving it 3.5 because of that. Perhaps if I mixed some Latakia in it it would better round it all out. This is and unless I find something better, will continue to be a daily pleasure for me Read Less

No Eureka Moment Found, But One Pleasant Puff
October 12, 2020
Product: Cornell & Diehl Epiphany Bulk
ey smoker, this didn’t rise to meet the caliber of burley blends I often enjoy. The perique succeeds in spicing it up to a degree, and I felt this on my tongue and absolutely during my retrohale. The dottle did indeed burn down to a fine white ash in my chamber, as several other reviewers have noted, perhaps due to its high proportion of burley. That cigarette taste did surface in the last fifth of the bowl, further pointing toward a strong measure of burley. After several bowls, I did find that Epiphany can only be truly enjoyed when puffed slowly, and this is true for this blend more than many others.
I often muse that there’s really so much competition out there with the sheer amount of great blends available: English, VaPers, burleys, Virginias, even aromatics. While I found Epiphany a decent blend, I don't plan to restock it. In terms of the other contemporary attempt to approximate the great Al Einstein’s go-to blend, Revelation, I plan to try Sutliff’s Revelation Match, with its measure of dark-fired Kentucky. Revelation Match might be my preference, as I love DFK and I feel this blend lacks a substantive amount of Latakia, so DFK might at least enrich it. Though it’s still not Latakia. And to me it’s the blender’s use of Latakia that is key in an English offering.
I didn’t encounter my Eureka moment, but I did enjoy a pleasant smoke from this respectable blend. What salvages the blend from being unsatisfactory is its balance: it features seemingly equal portions of Latakia, burley, Virginias and perique.
Perhaps my next experience with the blend will improve when I puff it out of my 1920s Comoy. In honor of none other than Professor Al, who puffed a similar blend in his Comoy’s from the same era—and not out of a cheap Dr. Grabow’s like the (also) great J. Robert Oppenheimer! 4.0 stars. Read Less

new blends; Sutliff's Revelation Match and C&D's Epiphany. Both are worth trying. They seem to try and capture Revelation's reported glory from slightly different angles, The Sutliff match includes Dark-fired Kentucky whereas Epiphany does not (or at least it isn't listed as included). Souldawg175 tried them both and liked the Sutliff a lot, but didn't care for Epiphany. I'm no dummy...you see he loves his “DFK!” blends and more importantly, he has little to no interest in strong Burley unless it's blended way down in the mix. He's right. Epiphany is very Burley forward, and it can get a little cigarette-ish towards the end of the bowl, but I've had far worse. I feel Epiphany is a good blend overall; it has easy mechanics, is a good anytime sort of blend and it's comprised of quality leaf. From what I've read the original Revelation was known as a hearty Burley blend. Maybe Epiphany comes closer to the original than Sutliff's match, I don't know, but I like it. So, the following weekend I brought some C&D Latakia (for blending, which he likes “50/50; Latakia/Latakia”, as he puts it) and we managed to make an amicable trade. If you can't get your hands on some free-trade Epiphany, I think it's worth the cost of admission...even without dark-fired Kentucky. Read Less
