…between ingredients you don’t normally see employed together. Not complex, but oh, so delicious. The Virginias taste sweet, like good Virginias normally do. The dark fired Kentucky tastes smoky as always. And the sweet addition of rum ties it all together. Not too much or too little of anything. Lights, burns and smokes well straight out of the tin. Folds and stuffs beautifully. But sneaky strong in a way navy blends of any kind usually aren’t, and not a blend for newbies, unless they’re used to a lot of vitamin-N from elsewhere. This is a great blend, but that nic hit is something else; makes swallowing A PAIN (phrasing). This really hits the throat, and leaves a burning sensation (for me at least) for a solid couple of minutes. That said, it tastes wonderful, and has virtually no tongue bite for me. What a muddled mess. I got to figure out what pipes the other reviewers are smoking Navigator with because the ones I've used seem to consistently return the same murky no- flavored dark taste. The navigator I'm smoking is two years old. Have tried it in a variety of pipes And I get just airy mud. I'll throw it back in the bin for another year, maybe pre-soak the jar with rum since there is a complete absence of it, I guess I'll see if anything improves but if the tobacco needs this my question is why buy it? This is an excellent blend. Though I love the taste and smell of dark fired Kentucky, I can only handle it in morderate doses. The DFK is just right in this blend. It is slightly more than condimental but not in your face. The room note on this blend is exquisite. The Virginias are extraordinary and age exteemely well. The rum is there, but by no means is this an aromatic. If you like Virginias and want to dip your toes into the wonderful world of DFK, this would be an excellent choice. And if you enjoy Navy flakes, this is a must try. What else can I say about this blend? Only that Greg Pease is a master blend and this blend is no exception to his impressive portfolio....Read More
