About This Pipe Tobacco

Founded in Kendal, Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. has fashioned quality pipe tobacco since 1887, utilizing processes and techniques that date to 1792. The Cumbria-based company prioritizes natural tobacco flavor, and in many of their mixtures, Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. maintains the standards enforced by the United Kingdom's strict purity laws of the 19th and 20th centuries — such laws dictating how much and what type of flavorings could be added to pipe tobacco and ensuring that sub-quality leaf wasn't hidden under the veil of exorbitant toppings.

Gawith, Hoggarth & Co.'s North Star is a blend of bright Brazilian and Indian tobaccos combined with dark Indonesian and Indian tobaccos, all of which are topped with licorice flavoring.

Interesting blend

I see other reviews for his blend comparing it to 1-Q or saying it has a cherry flavor.
All I can say is, maybe you should use a different pipe, or clean the one you're using... You're missing this one completely!

There is a background of Lakeland to this one, almost bringing it into an
aromatic balkan of a sort, for me.
(Maybe this pipe is dirty🤣)

I'm smoking this from a Norman, leather wrapped, meerschaum lined, real old briar #606.

There is a nice, subtle, licorice taste on the tongue while enjoying this bowl. But again, I feel the orientals in this one coming through the Virginias nicely.

I bought this tin when it was released in early 2025, smoking it after it's been in a jar for a year.
I have had a couple bowls of this blend over the past year, but the flavors are finally coming out like described by GH.
Could be the pipe🤷🏻‍♂️

I really enjoy the way the bright Virginias melded and dance with the orientals in this blend. I'm tempted to press some into a plug and slice and crumble to see where it would go?!

I'm tempted to buy a couple bulk ounces and play with this blend over time, because it's seeming to age nicely somehow...

Not an AI generated review, size 9.5 Carolina logger boots preferred, U.S.A. , real human.

I wasn't sure about how strong the licorice taste would be but is noticable. After taste is definitely that of licorice. Will need to sit a bit before smoking.
If you're looking for a heavily flavored Aro, skip this one

I really love this, and I would be surprised if it doesn't become very popular. The tobacco flavors are very pleasant, it doesn't bite, and I've been told by several people that the room note is amazing. That being said, if you're looking for an Aro that tastes like it smells, this isn't it. This is a VERY tobacco-forward Aro, but that's why I'm enjoying it so much. The cherry flavor is quite light, and you almost have to look for the vanilla to notice it. If you're used to smoking Aros like Blood Red Moon or 1-Q, this might be a disappointment, but if you prefer regular tobaccos, especially Virginias, I'd highly recommend this blend. The only reason I left off half a star is because my jar was pretty dry on opening...Read More

Product: Gawith Hoggarth & Co. North Star 50g
Unlike the north star that sticks out prominently as a guiding beacon in the night sky, this star gets lost amongst all of the rest of them, making it blend in like every other subpar Virginia. Even with a few months in the can and in a meerschaum, the taste got lost in space.
Fantastic

The mild flavoring is at a perfect level . Its consistently fantastic , though a bit one dimensional , its a damn fine dimension . Mild and refreshing . One of my drop dead favorite Summer blends
