About This Pipe Tobacco

The inaugural entry in a new series from master blender Greg Pease, Bankside introduces the Zeitgeist Collection — a line celebrating the often avant-garde and rebellious themes of the modern era — with a strikingly modernist reinterpretation of the archetypal Virginia/Perique flake. From a bold, traditional canvas of Red and Bright Virginias and genuine St. James Perique emerge subtle, contrasting strokes of dark-fired Kentucky and Latakia tobaccos — originating exotic, smoky undertones that support and enrich its notes of sweet cream and citrusy tang.

About the Zeitgeist Collection: The Zeitgeist Collection is a pipe tobacco series from Gregory Pease that pays tribute to the avant-garde and rebellious themes of the modern era. Each carefully formulated pipe tobacco in this series evokes the spirit of a particular location, time period, or cultural milieu. This inaugural mixture, Bankside, is a nod to Modernist art and architecture and the defiant but forward-looking culture that inspired the movement, with the tin depicting an abstract rendering of the Tate Modern art museum located in London's Bankside district.

Delicious Honey-BBQ'd pork ribs
March 08, 2026
Product: G. L. Pease Bankside 2oz
Seriously, I believe I can taste crispy, grilled, fatty, pork ribs in honey barbecue sauce with some mincemeat spices. It's savory, salty, sweet, and smokey. I won the tin lottery with this purchase, receiving a brand-new tin with over a year of age already on it. I believe that time was good to it. I did not experience what others have written about: a vaper with dark, smokey undertones. Rather, this is a well-blended, coherent flavor all on its own. The perique, dfK, and Latakia have melted into the Virginia, creating a single, unique experience.
Personally, it's not the set of flavors I look for. I admire it for what it is. And it's a great change-up for someone who stays more with straight Virginias or burley-based blends. I tend to prefer more vegetal, grain-related flavors. But something like this is a nice change of pace every once in a while. Bold and beautiful. Very meaty, if you like that sort of thing.

I didn't come here to talk about tasting notes or run a string of adjectives ad nauseam. When I smoke this medium to full bodied, lightly floral blend what I think about are the people behind this tobacco. Thanks to Greg and Jeremy for bringing pipemen another deliciously engaging perfectly blended tobacco....Read More

I've never tasted anything like this... From the first sip it's obvious that this is a high quality blend. The flavors are so measured but singularly there. The next thought was this must be an English because the Latakia you can taste. But then it's confusing because the Virginia takes over and then there's some dark fired Kentucky, then some cedar, then sweetness and so forth. And then it's like you taste a few of those at once and then it changes slightly again. All of this in a good way. I am not a flavor specialist other reviews will do a better job. But I can attest to the character of this smoke and it is really something different. Definitely on a higher level but it's going to require a few tins to get to the bottom of this. Bless GLPease I don't know of a better blender to satisfy the yens for a thinking man's smoke. Update: after now two years in the jar it's maintained its moisture level which is fairly wet but it's like there's something deep happening in that jar. It's almost like I imagine tilling the soil and how it would smell - ancient and peaty. Still the virginias share an equal space with the latakia but this thing needs another 3 years or so in the jar. It's going to be incredible! This isn't something I would smoke everyday but when I really want to get involved with a smoke this is definitely tops....Read More
It's ok, but not for me.

I tried this when it first came out, it was ok.
Starting off with a strong citrus note that slowly fades away with every puff.
I just couldn't get into it.
Not a bullseye, but pretty close.
Worth the money

I enjoy this blend alot, I find the combination of tobaccos to be perfect. The addition of DFK really adds dimension to the blend for me. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a Perique DFK combo with thier Lat.
