I like strong Latakia blends, but this one has something in it with a nasty dry bitter taste. Discarded it after 1/2 a bowl, and (for the 1st time out of over 50 blends tried) threw the bag away.

Bag note of Latakia, some sweetness also detected. I thought the sweetness was a topping but after smoking I don’t think that is the case. Smoky Latakia dominates but is kept in check by some well used orientals. Medium body, smokes well dry. Medal of Valor deserves its own commendation

Medal of Valor deserves a commendation of its own. I was pleasantly surprised by this blend. I am not a burley fan, but I have come to find that some blends have mastered the blending. MOV is a prime example of using burley to add to the body of the blend to offset the bite of a Virginia without overpowering the flavor of the Virginia. The tin note (bag) was intoxicating. The room note is pleasant, and people often comment that smells nice. I usually smoke English blends, so this is noteworthy. It starts off sweet and almost immediately after, the latakia kicks in strong but not overwhelming. The sweetness lingers in the background through the whole smoke. Just when you think it can't get more complex the faint sting of perique begins to nip at the tip of your tongue. This adventure of a tobacco continues well after this cool, dry, and spicy mix is completely ashed in the bottom of the bowl. The smokey sweetness lingers on the pallate. This is one of the finest English blends I've smoked (and I've smoked a lot) which was a huge surprise since I've never really thought much of Lane Limited tobaccos. I've not tried Medal of Honor but this one just tickles my fancy. It's a very well balanced blend with a subtle, sweetness and some sour (incense) notes. The Oriental tobaccos in it are some of the best I've tasted, which is a huge surprise, I actually prefer this to true English Latakia blends and given that this contains Burley, most people would not classify this as a "true" "English" blend, regardless of what genre this falls under, it's simply amazing. I've only had this one in bulk but it comes with a perfect moisture level and is ready to smoke from the get go. I can't really explain what makes this blend stand out from the sea of English/Balkan blends out there but there is something different about this one. My only complaint is I wish it had a little more nicotine but I'm a freak and I require a ridiculous amount the stuff but this one will suit most people's nicotine needs. If you like English and oriental blends, you will probably like this one. It is a little stronger than Frog Morton, and has a nice oriental component that I believe some reviewers mistook for a flavor of cumin. The latakia is not overpowering, neither is it subtle. It's a really nice, mild English blend. I thgink the small amount of burley in it is what lightens it up.I can definitely recommend.it....Read More

A previous reviewer hit on the same thing I noticed upon smoking my first bowl. There is a distinct but light 'perfume' taste to this tobacco. Others said it had a soapy taste which might be the case when you consider that many soaps contain a certain amount of fragrance but I digress. I do like this tobacco but I like others much more that have essentially the same tobacco components. Will I buy more? Not sure really....Read More
