About This Pipe Tobacco

First produced by Mac Baren in 1950, The Solent Mixture is a blend of sweet Virginias and full-bodied Burleys to which the original Mac Baren Cavendish and Latakia are added creating a wonderfully made English blend with a distinct spicy flavor and aroma.

The tin note on this one is miraculous, but smoking it leaves much to be desired. I got a sour, ashy taste from it. Not for me.

For me, its not heavy at all, get hints of vanilla, rum/ liquor, slight smokiness. Some days when i want the rum smooth notes but more bite, i add more latakia to it. Definitely worth a try

For plumcake lovers

A step above plumcake in almost all senses is this. It has more latakia, more body more bite even. But I just don’t see the pricing fare... It should be in the same range.Delicious indeed but it is basically on the same level with plumcake in my opinion.

Latakia is a great component but I find in so many blends these days, it's soooo overbearing !! It's a bit like going to an anglo Mexican restaurant and finding everything being dominated by cilantro !! Not so th Solent mixture. The Latakia is always there but in a delightfully balanced way.This old timer is classic Mac and is great all th way into the dottle. Pleasantly surprised, the tin note and taste has a red wine flavour. The latakia is light. Easy to smoke anytime.
