McConnell: Maduro 50g Pipe Tobacco

Product Number: 003-042-0010

One of McConnell's original blends dating back to 1848, Maduro — "mature" or "ripe" in Spanish — is named for its inclusion of extra-dark, matured Virginias. It combines leaf from McConnell's Rich Dark Virginia with a touch of Burley, Perique, and Black Cavendish before being heat-pressed and topped with rum for a distinctive navy-style, ribbon-cut pipe tobacco.

I like this blend . I think it is better if you tried it a few times .
This is not a straightforward tobacco blend.

When opened, the tin smells very pleasant, a little like molasses and a hint of dark rum. The cavendish is very... light, with slight burley notes behind it. About quarter bowl through, the perique came out with it's notes. It is a refined blend that is subtle for sure, not sweet at all, very subtle letting the tobacco do the talking and not flavoring. Its interesting for sure. Definitely worth a try, not disappointed....Read More

Tried this in a small Ropp vintage briar Devil Anse, used keystones for filter as a consideration point. The tin note was sweet and molasses. Lighting took a bit as noted, and it took me a bit to understand what was going on. The cavendish is very light, with slight burley notes behind it. About quarter through, the perique came out with it's almost meaty notes. It is a refined blend that is subtle for sure, not sweet at all, very subtle letting the tobacco do the talking and not flavoring. its interesting for sure as a delicate blend in the English style. Note that the navy note is that a note, not a navy blend. Definitely worth a try, not disappointed...Read More

This tobacco is beautiful in the tin and has a wonderful tin note. It even starts off tasting a little like molasses and a hint of dark rum. The problem with it is the little bit of flavor that is present initially quickly dissipates and then it's like smoking air. I have a lot of experience (over 20 years) and even this tobacco tempted me to puff just a little more to try and get some flavor out of it. Well that was a huge mistake because it will lay down a wicked bite if you even try to to get it going good. Not a good tobacco at all. I would not recommend it to anyone especially a beginner. A complete waste of money. I'm going to give the rest of it away and sell the second tin I have. I hate scottish cake too, I love their scottish flake and folded flake is good too just seems like it's either a bit hit or a huge miss with McConnell....Read More
