About This Pipe Tobacco

The Per Jensen Legacy Collection presents four distinctive Danish-American pipe tobacco blends, inspired by the life, legacy, and personal smoking preferences of Per's father, Per Georg Jensen, a Danish Navy veteran who left a lasting mark on the pipe community. Each blend is carefully crafted by Cornell & Diehl under the guidance of Per G. Jensen.

Port Guardian is a Danish-style Red Virginia flake, offering deep natural sweetness complemented by notes of dark citrus and lively spice.

Love it, but it's cake not flake

I grabbed a tin of this and it quickly became the favorite in my collection. When I opened it I was expecting flake like the tin says. However it was a bock of cake instead which isn't a big deal unless you prefer sheets of flake.

Ive waited long to try to try this blend!

When I heard Per Jensen made this blend based on Capstan blues 1960s recipe, I was excited to try it. Per is an excellent blender and I loved reading the history and sediments associated with the blend he crafted. Along with kings watch, this has got to be one of the most gorgeous looking blends upon opening the tin. It's described as a "flake" but its super pressed together to almost form a sort of crumbly cake like consistency. The moisture level is perfect upon opening as well as being greeted by a delightful fruity aroma with dried dark fruits like raisins and prunes as well as having a light sour grassiness to it. That slight sour grassiness is also present while smoking it, along with the dark fruits, and a good, clean tasting, straight tobacco. Is it like capstan from 1960? I can't really say, but what I can say, is that its an excellent blend, with a beautiful history to it. Some final words, the tin art is some of my favorite tin art that I've seen in awhile, and it makes a great conversation piece talking about the meaning of the design as well.
Edit: oh yea I haven't seen anyone write this at all, but this was the first blend that kicked my butt after enjoying and I ended up crashed on the couch for the evening afterwards. Not sure why cause there no perique or nothing in it....Read More

Some people says that Chinese revies are "annoying and useless". I highly doubt those words rational. It's an open market, its good people leave comments for others. Bold without the Bite

As someone who is still relatively new to pipe smoking, I was pleasantly surprised by how approachable Per Jensen's Port Guardian was. I picked it up because I heard fantastic things about it.

I smoked it fresh from a newly opened tin in my Vauen Harlekin. The flakes were a little on the moist side at first, but after about 10 minutes of drying, it was ready to pack! I was worried the tobacco was going to be difficult to keep lit, but after the initial charring light, it stayed burning with almost no effort.

Upon opening the tin, I was met with a bold aroma and noticeable sweetness and citrus notes. The smoke itself was just as enjoyable. It burned cool all the way through. Best of all, for someone still developing their cadence, this gave me absolutely no tongue bite! The flavor was consistent from beginning to end. It's definitely a full-flavored blend with sweetness leading the way, followed by a subtle spicy finish that kept things interesting without overwhelming the palate.

Since I'm still fairly new to the hobby, I don't have many blends to compare it to yet, but I think anyone who enjoys bold, flavorful tobaccos would appreciate this one. It's satisfying without being difficult to smoke, which makes it surprisingly welcoming for newer pipe smokers as well.
