About This Pipe

The son of Emil Chonowitsch, Jess Chonowitsch is a second-generation pipe maker, and a pupil of the legendary Sixten Ivarsson. After learning from the best of the best and spending decades honing his craft, Jess has become highly influential in his own right, his work coveted by collectors and inspiring a new generation of carvers. When looking at this stunning Billiard, it's easy to see why his work is so highly regarded.

Balance is the word that immediately comes to mind when looking at this piece — balanced proportions, balanced rhythm, balanced colors. Every aspect of the pipe is beautifully rendered, from the tall, subtly tapered bowl to the hand-cut stem. The grain falls seamlessly in line with the stummel's shaping — a testament to Jess' skill at reading the briar. These gorgeous grain patterns are brought out by a smooth auburn finish, its silken luster and rich hue showcasing every fine detail. A bamboo shank adds some organic flourish, and its two bumpy knuckles offer a stimulating texture to keep the fingertips engaged. The flared shoulders of the saddle stem perfectly echo the natural shaping of the bamboo, effortlessly blurring the lines between man-made and natural beauty. For the fan of Danish-style pipes, this one is sure to become the crown jewel of your collection.
