About This Pipe
We've seen quite a few interpretations of the Danish Horn shape from Lasse Skovgaard over the years, with the majority of the compositions focusing on his own, highly organic, wave-like aesthetic — both the rim and the shank end emulating the look of a cresting wave. In this variation, however, that theme is much more subdued, focusing instead on lending the form as much forward momentum in profile as possible. The deep forward cant and sweeping, tapering transition surely reinforce this powerful silhouette, as does the comparatively trim, elongated stem.
But the real gem here is the grain. Lasse has turned his attention to the grain patterns that shape the profile. With birdseye dotting the aft of the rim and top of the transition and shank, he's created an aesthetic like a firework, with flame seemingly exploding from that patch of birdseye and dissolving into fiery grain as it fades into the craggy strip of plateau that lines the fore and underside. A beautiful piece.
