About This Pipe
Manduela Riger-Kusk is a classically trained pipe maker, having apprenticed under the renowned Poul Ilsted in addition to working at the esteemed Pipe Dan workshop. Over the last two decades, Manduela has mastered her craft, building a reputation for carving modern, elevated takes on Danish classics, with this Pickaxe being one example.
Combining crisp, clean shaping with beautifully organic finish work, this Pickaxe certainly demonstrates Manduela's keen eye for pipe design. The bowl here is nothing short of striking, from its plateau-crowned rim to its impressively crisp, narrow heel, with stunning flame grain streaking its walls. This crisply rendered bowl is joined by an arrow-straight shank supplemented with three knuckles of bamboo, which introduce a pleasing and highly organic element of visual rhythm to the composition. A sleek, tapering, vulcanite stem tops off the composition, restoring some crispness and rigidity to the aft of the composition. Featuring stunning grain, masterful shaping, and breathtaking finish work, this Pickaxe is sure to make a cherished addition to any pipe collection.
