About This Pipe
Craftsmanship is the name of the game for German artisan Werner Mummert, particularly when it comes to his deep, craggy sandblasts. This Bulldog of Werner's is a perfect specimen of his remarkable technique, with the bowl sandblasted deeply in a cross grain pattern that easily pairs visually with the diagonal sandblast of the standard diamond shank. The rim is only lightly inflated for a Bulldog, and the thin bead lines are contained completely inside the line of the rim, an unusual and playful touch on Werner's part. A light brown stain gives the stummel a natural look and the lines of the rim and shank are quite sharp, all yielding to a green cumberland stem that serves as a great contrast to the stain. This piece is made all the more impressive by the fact that it weighs less than a single ounce from bit to heel, an amazing piece of artistry on Werner's part.
