About This Pipe
One of the biggest names in Italian pipe making today, Castello's roots can be traced back to 1947, when Carlo Scotti founded the workshop and began producing handmade briar pipes. At the time, handmade briars were uncommon in Italy, but that would soon change as Castello discovered customers' desire for high-quality, handcrafted pipes. In a time of quantity over quality in Italy's pipe making history, Castello flipped the script by prioritizing craftsmanship, high-quality materials, and cutting-edge engineering. Today, the brand remains committed to these same principles, as evidenced by this paneled Billiard.
Measuring just over five inches in total length, and with a chamber depth of less than one-and-a-half inches, this is a slightly more reserved piece from Castello. Four U-shaped panels frame the bowl, lending the piece a striking, geometric appearance. The trim, arrow-straight shank and sleekly tapered stem enhance this geometric effect, and they join each other via a push-style mount, allowing for easy disassembly and cleaning. The stummel wears a smooth, walnut-stained finish that showcases the briar's tight cross grain and dense pools of birdseye, the latter of which has earned this pipe Castello's prestigious "Occhio di Pernice" designation.
