About This Pipe
Jens "Tao" Nielsen and Poul Ilsted founded Svendborg in 1969 and led the workshop throughout the 1970s before eventually leaving to pursue their careers as individual pipe makers. This Svendborg Pot is sandblasted to highlight growth rings and birdseye on the flanks of the bowl and stained very darkly to blend well with the vulcanite stem, which is tapered and lightly bent toward the bit. The bowl is shaped with a light taper from the heel up, but is still squat enough to preserve the title of Pot. The underside of the shank is bent lightly upward, meeting the stem seamlessly without use of an accent.
