About This Pipe
One of the most renowned pipe and tobacco shops in the world, W.Ø. Larsen’s workshop famously sat on the iconic “Walking Street” in Copenhagen, Denmark, until 2005. Founded by Ole Larsen, the workshop began producing its own pipes in the 1960s when Danish pipes were gaining popularity around the world. Larsen eventually began hiring artists who would go on to earn reputations as some of the best craftsmen in the world, including names like Sixten Ivarsson, Teddy Knudsen, Tonni Nielsen, Jess Chonowitsch, and Hans "Former" Nielsen. Former succeeded Sven Knudsen as the workshop’s second manager, and under his leadership, Larsen’s workshop grew and became a household name both in Denmark and abroad.
Following a semi-classic school of design, W.Ø. Larsen’s pipes often put a spin on conventional shapes. Typically seen with rounder and fuller proportions, many of Larsen’s pipes also feature a low center of gravity, with fuller substance to the lower bowl, and their most prestigious pieces earned the Straight Grain and Pearl designations. The prestige and prominence of W.Ø. Larsen continues to be celebrated by collectors today, with the workshop’s quality and attention to detail evident in every pipe.
