About This Pipe
With a background in woodworking and a passion for pipe smoking, it was inevitable that Dirk Heinemann would be drawn to pipe making. After five years of studying product design at the University of Hannover, completing a three-year carpentry apprenticeship, and working as a furniture designer, Heinemann built a solid foundation of knowledge that would support his pipe-making journey. Heinemann describes his style as simple, clear, and uncomplicated, although his avant-garde creations seem to defy this definition, as his portfolio is characterized by a blend of experimentation and a commitment to both elegance and functionality. This bent Apple is a thoroughly organic rendition, boasting a sweeping momentum from heel to button. It's rendered close to Nosewarmer dimensions, measuring less than five inches in total length, making it ideal for pocket-carry and on-the-go smoking. The bowl sits with a subtle forward cant aided by its lifting heel, low-bulging sides, and pronounced bulbous flanks. The shank equals the bowl in visual weight, yet it features a subdued ridgeline that is similar to the Danish Fish shape, terminating at the bowl's lifted heel. A sleek vulcanite stem tops off the design, its bold base matching well with the rest of the design's compact muscularity. Dressed in a crisp red sandblast, the stummel boasts immaculate ripples of ring grain all around the bowl, while the smooth rim lets a touch of birdseye peak through.
