About This Pipe
We lay our scene in fair Verona, hometown of Romeo and Juliet and Accademia della Pipa alum Michele Brentegani. Michele has enjoyed woodworking his entire life but only began to focus on pipes in 2015, when he encountered a friend's Churchwarden and decided he wanted to make one of his own. This Dublin of his making is an incredibly precise piece, stretching nearly five and one-half inches but weighing in under a single ounce. Though the piece's conical bowl is well-made and handsomely sandblasted to draw out the growth rings and flame grain against a dark stain, Michele's profile is truly striking: a lengthy stretch of white horn that follows the curve of the briar shank perfectly on its way back to the vulcanite saddle stem. It's a beautiful work on the part of the Italian artisan, a great representation of his country's prowess with a block of briar.
