About This Pipe
A woodworker for years before he started making pipes in 2000, Todd Johnson credits Danish legend Tom Eltang above all other artisans for influencing his work. He also learned from Lars Ivarsson, and formally studied aesthetics as a student at Samford University and Yale University.
This Hoplite-graded bent Dublin from Todd packs considerable punch into its Nosewamer-esque length. Fronted by a muscular bowl, backed by a wide, flaring bent shank, sandblasted to allow for easy viewing of the grain, stained a rich mahogany hue, and backed by an Ivorite ring for an accent and a lightly bent vulcanite stem, every facet of this piece was given considerable attention to detail on Todd's part. The stummel is curvaceous and round and could easily designate this piece as a Horn if the bowl were further canted. Well-crafted and beautifully finished, this is a piece that emphasizes the smoking pipe's role as functional art.
