About This Pipe
Texas-based artisan Ryan Alden attributes his pipe-making skills to a strong artistic and vocational background, having studied leatherworking, wood turning, and ceramics among other disciplines. Fascinated by natural materials, Ryan works with briar, morta, strawberry wood, and olivewood, often accenting them with other various organic materials. This sandblasted Billiard is one of the American artisan's briar offerings, rendered with clean lines and muscular proportions. The bowl houses ample room for a favorite tobacco blend, and the shapely shank provides plenty of room to comfortably drape a digit. This pipe's color palette is full of bold contrast: The smooth rim and raised accent band at the junction offer a pop of textural contrast against the stummel's dark, craggy sandblast, which itself contrasts boldly against the crisp white hue of the acrylic stem.
