About This Pipe
Abe Herbaugh developed a love for woodworking in his father's shop while growing up in West Virginia. He built electric guitars as a young man, during which time he was reintroduced to the hobby of pipe smoking. Abe eventually became interested in pipe making and attended his first pipe show in 2010, then left his job building guitars to pursue pipe making full-time. World-renowned for his craftsmanship, Abe draws particular influence from Danish and Japanese artisans.
Abe kept this Billiard feather-light at less than one ounce and fronted it with a traditional Billiard bowl that he sandblasted for a rich, unpredictable touch and stained a deep, smoky hue. The stain contrasts well with the arrow-straight, two-knuckle length of light bamboo that backs up the bowl before transitioning to the vulcanite of the stem, which starts with a round ferrule before the mouthpiece stretches out of a single expansion ring. All at once elegant and playful, grand and precise, this offering from Abe is a unique take on the most classic of pipe shapes that any bamboo enthusiast will instantly appreciate.
