Dublin-born artisan Austin Quinlan's designs are strongly influenced by the Anglo-French school of design. The use of bamboo in pipe making traces back to Sixten Ivarsson and has since become a celebrated motif emphasizing symmetry and uniformity, qualities Quinlan demonstrates here to great effect. The round shank is extended by three evenly spaced knuckles of bamboo, creating a sense of visual rhythm and harmony through the aft. The saddle stem's shoulders are gently tapered to echo the bamboo's organic form. Up front, the cylindrical bowl is anchored by a muscular heel, its added robustness offering a pleasing contrast to the slender, pale bamboo.
