About This Pipe
Tonino Jacono entered the pipe business in 1981, finishing and selling pipes that were shaped by his brother-in-law from briar acquired and drilled by his father-in-law. After two years, Jacono left Calabria — the region comprising the Italian peninsula's southwestern "toe" — and moved north to Jesi, a municipality near Italy's Adriatic coast. Jacono began making pipes under his own name in Jesi, and still does today, with a philosophy of making high-quality pipes at a fair price point.
This bent Brandy from Jacono is fronted by a wide, round heel leading up to the tapered walls of the bowl, which wear handsome straight grain beneath a warm auburn stain and smooth finish. The shank is upturned lightly and gently tapers back to a stem of swirling dark brown acrylic, itself tapered and bent substantially on its way back to the bit. Jacono went with a fascinating color scheme for this piece and shaped it beautifully, resulting in a piece that is just as artistic as it is functional.
