About This Pipe
Traditionally, the Rhodesian is characterized by a Bulldog bowl fitted to a round shank instead of the Bulldog's diamond shank. Such shaping typically makes for a softer style, forgoing the architectural structure and firmness exuded by the Bulldog. This paneled Rhodesian from Ropp, though, while still bearing a round shank, features that rigidity across the bowl: It maintains the classic Rhodesian's tapered bowl but defines the lower section with crisp facets that end in scalloped arches just below the rim's taper. A unique rendition from the historic French marque, this pipe fits in well with Ropp's recognizable style, offering petite proportions and a sleek demeanor.
Like the Vintage line, Ropp's Algerian Superior series boasts stummels that were found at the Chapuis-Comoy factory. Turned decades ago but never finished, they showcase old-school shaping and a traditional, chestnut stain fitted to an ebonite stem for a classic appeal. Unlike Ropp's Vintage pipes, Algerian Superior pieces are presented only in a smooth finish, having been sourced from select-quality Algerian briar that's free of fills, similar to the Vintage Superior series, which pairs smooth-finished, fill-free stummels to horn stems.
