About This Pipe

Scott Thile is an American artisan whose craftsmanship seamlessly merges his passions for woodworking and the rich tradition of pipe making. A professional bass player and piano tuner, Thile's journey into pipe-making began in 2004, drawing inspiration from Danish designs and North American pipe masters. His pipes are known for their precision and elegant design, offering fresh interpretations of classic shapes, with his Bulldog variants especially acclaimed and collected worldwide. Thile's deep appreciation for both the artistry and engineering of pipe making is evident in his dedication to continuous learning, having founded Pipedia.org, an open-source platform aimed at preserving pipe-making knowledge.

This bent Dublin showcases a more unconventional side of Thile's portfolio, embracing the fluid, organic aesthetic often associated with the Danish Fancy Freehand style. The bowl features a subtly canted heel that imparts a sense of forward motion while also allowing the pipe to sit securely. Beneath the transition, the heel is sharply defined, creating visual tension that highlights the graceful flow into the shank. The bowl itself takes on an oval cross-section reminiscent of the Opera shape, with gently compressed flanks lending it a distinctive profile. A rugged plateau crown tops the rim, enhancing the pipe's organic character as its peaks stand prominently in silhouette. The composition culminates in a softly bent half-saddle stem, ensuring a comfortable smoking posture. A soft sandblast and deep ebony stain dress the stummel, revealing striking stacks of growth rings that climb the bowl and further emphasize the briar's natural beauty.
