About This Pipe
Drawing from a foundation in fine woodworking and an exacting eye for detail, Trey Rice creates pipes informed by American, Danish, and English traditions while remaining distinctly his own in execution. This bent Apple represents one of his more classic interpretations, presenting a poised, harmonious silhouette elevated by graceful curvature and refined proportions.
The bowl commands attention at the fore, its rounded, supple walls rising from a softly lifted heel toward a taut, flat rim. From a broad transition, the shank sweeps rearward in a fluid arc, gradually expanding to a broad face before meeting a subtly curved saddle stem. At the junction, a bright band of masur birch provides a striking accent, its pale hues offering elegant contrast against the composition's dark, moody palette. A finely rendered sandblast completes the piece, drawing out handsome grain and pronounced growth rings around the bowl.
