About This Pipe
When I saw this pipe, I was really surprised it wasn't graded a notch or two higher. The grain is laser-straight, all the way around the bowl, extending the length of the shank. The birdseye and three-quarter grain on the bottom of the bowl and shank is arguably even more impressive than the straight grain on the sides. The shape is interesting, with its swooping bottom panel almost pot shaped (but actually volcano shaped) bowl and lovely, very Japanese, floppy rim (as a friend of mine likes to describe such soft Japanese, almost melting, rims). Delightful!
