About This Pipe
Founded in 1983 by William "Bill" Ashton-Taylor, who worked as a Dunhill apprentice, the Ashton workshop is lauded for its incredibly high standards of quality and mastery of classic English design principles. Jimmy Craig currently heads the company, having taken up the mantle after Bill's passing in 2009. Since then, he has sustained the Ashton legacy by steadfastly following the founder's philosophy of equally prioritizing all parts of the pipe and utilizing only the best materials and most pristine finishing.
Stamped "LX," this Canadian skews on the larger side of Ashton's offerings. The bowl houses a sizable chamber just over two inches deep, offering plenty of space for a favorite blend. The protracted, ovoid shank offers ample room to drape a digit while enjoying a lengthy smoke, and a smooth panel along the stummel's underside allows the pipe to remain steadily upright between puffs. Dressed in a rich auburn iteration of Ashton's Old Church sandblast, the stummel shows off a wealth crisply rendered grain, and it's further commended by a fiery-hued, brindled stem and a gleaming silver band at the junction.
