About This Pipe

Carlo Scotti brought the Castello brand to life in the late 1940s, crafting his pipes in the same shadow of the Alps as the likes of Savinelli and the Rovera family. Scotti's workshop would eventually yield the independent workshops of Caminetto and Radice, both founded by former Castello artisans, but the Castello tradition continues today with the neoclassic designs that make northern Italy such an influential player in the industry of pipe making.

This rendition of the Opera shape from Castello showcases alternating straight grain and birdseye, all finished smoothly to allow the eyes to appreciate the light-and-dark contrast of the grain. The bowl is lightly ovoid and the rim deflated toward the chamber, and the shank behind it is round and muscular. The saddle stem is black acrylic feeding into a white accent at the junction, giving the piece an overall regal appearance when taken together with the grain on the stummel.
