Sandblasted Bent Apple with Orangewood Tobacco Pipe

Though Jared Coles' shaping style draws from design schools across the world, his work is primarily rooted in the American Renaissance and Danish classical movements of pipe making, with this bent Apple being a good example of the former. This is an unapologetically stout pipe, presenting with ample substance in hand and a thick build throughout that belies its fairly reserved reach of just over five inches long. The transition is wide, though acute, and it gives way to a lifting shank that flares out expressively as it rises before being capped by a subtly domed accent band of orangewood. This ring marks the junction to a short, gently curling saddle stem of black vulcanite, poising this pipe for comfortable smoking and drawing some of the visual focus back toward the aft thanks to its sharp expansion ring at the base. The shank and stem nicely support the bowl, though the bowl still takes on the vast majority of the visual weight here, namely thanks to its walls' reassuring thickness. A lifting heel supports the bowl, guiding the eye naturally toward the waist and its raised presence at the fore wall while pushing the bowl into further prominence. From the waist, these walls take on a gradually arcing taper to the domed rim, possessed of ample curvature for a comfortable feel in hand and boasting more breadth than height: nicely insulating the capacious chamber. Dressed in a warm, rich tanblast, the stummel showcases handsome grain, with rippling ring grain flowing down the walls of the bowl and a smooth finish at the rim for contrast.
