About This Pipe
Luigi Radice worked in the prestigious Castello workshop before founding the Caminetto brand with Giuseppe "Peppino" Ascorti in the late 1960s. In 1980, Radice began producing his self-titled brand of pipes with his son, Gianluca, and father, Paolo. The brand pays heavy attention to the briar that goes into each pipe, seasoning it for three years before production.
This Poker from Radice is finished with their Rind rustication and, as a specimen of the Pure line, is completely unstained to allow the natural color of the briar to shine. As is typical of the Poker, the bowl is cylindrical with a light cant to allow it to sit upright on its flat heel without assistance. The rustication gives a lightly craggy touch to both the bowl and the arrow-straight, gently tapered shank that follows it, while a tapered stem of black acrylic finishes the piece out back. It's a relatively compact piece at just under five inches in length, but the lack of stain gives it plenty of visual intrigue by itself, getting the smoker as close to the briar as possible.
