Sutliff has done it. This is the most deliciously nasty blend I've seen. Nasty, in the realm of the crust on a smoked brisket, black dark chocolate, or a good Dutch licorice. There is no perfect blend, but this rates a strong 4+.

month ago and have been trying different brands and blends. I had stuck to mostly aromatics but wanted to try an English blend. I chose this honestly for its name as I am a professor myself. This is an incredible blend that provided a far better taste than I thought it would. Do not let the "smoked" smell from the bag fool you. There is an overall taste of mellow leather and a spice that keeps you wanting to try it again. I have a feeling this will become my go-to for an everyday, mellow/relaxation smoke. Love this Sutliff blend. A great everyday smoke. Only complaint is it's a teet on the wet side but nothing 10/15 minutes of drying can't cure. Good stuff citizens.

What is present here is a well complex blend that has a unique balance. The words that come to mind is stubborn refusal to fail and appease. That is the beauty and the joy of the blend. The name fits the tobacco, Old Professor, acquired taste.

'funk' I pick up in their blends puts me off. But, my friends, this is one the exceptions (and there are a few others in their lineup, such their English Kake #1, 515 RC-1 Red Virginia, or the 507S Stoved Virginia). I consider myself a McClelland English blend fanatic, like their FM series, the 5125 Coyote Classic, 5110 Dark English Full, Balkan Blue, 2045 Oriental, & their Erik Nording branded "Fox Hound." Since they closed up shop, I've spent the past two years desperately trying to fill the hole in my heart. To this day, my favorite replacements have been Boswell's Countryside and Northwood blends. But those are a bit pricey, at about $4.50/oz. I've also picked up a legion of other so-called "replacements" but have never found anything else that came close to the woodsy aromas of McClelland's English blends besides Boswell's. But that changed when I found Old Professor. It's by no means a clone, but it, for my money, is a stellar stand in. After trying two ounces, I was hooked and now plan on stocking up my cellar with the stuff. Despite its low review score on Tobacco Reviews, I think this stuff is one of the best mild bulk English blends on the market. If you like McClelland's English tobaccos, or have always wanted to try something close, you would be a fool not to try out some Old Professor. When you get it, allow it do dry out for about 24-48 hours (it comes super wet), but once you do, you'll be in English heaven. Read Less

Milder, yes, that almost describes it, but it is not as much muted as crowded. There is something else sharing the space. A neutral smoke, almost like a smooth burley with the flavor stripped from it.
And every so often, a taste arises in that neutral buffer space, a kind of dusty taste. Most unusual and intriguing.
This is certainly not an every day smoke for me. I like my Englishes bold with permeating flavor. But every now and again, this muted complexity, this comparatively stark flavor of smoke, this is a welcome change. If you don't like it at first, try it again when your mood is different and you may find something most intriguing, even if stolid in its own way. Read Less
