All day smoke
October 16, 2012
Product: Cornell & Diehl Red Virginia Cavendish Bulk
Some would say that the Red Virginia Cavendish is a blender. I like it just as it is. Full flavored, and if you like the flavor of Virginias, its cool, sweet and mild. It's an all day smoke. One I don't get tired of and need to switch.
Puffy Clouds of Virginia Happiness

If you like your Virginia, this is a outstanding rich flavored tobacco. A little more subtle in sweetness than a Stoved Virginia, but with a rich taste and a hint of spiciness.
Big billowy clouds of fragrant room note as an added bonus. This is a p... Read More

Standard Virginia blend here. Pouch note is herbal with a touch of sugar. No drying time needed lights without effort. Top half of the bowl is sugary sweet with notes of baked bread, grass and or hay. As you work your way down the bowl earthy notes c... Read More
ombined with pepper appear and the sugary sweetness drops off. Pretty standard straight VA not a lot of depth or mystique which is perfect if you love straight VA's or are in the mood. Definitely a smooth all day smoke. đź‘Ś Read Less

Last year I tried growing my own tobacco and was looking for some blending components to mix with it. I purchased this as a blending agent and was pleasantly surprised at how good this stuff is on its own. The room note is simply outstanding. It i... Read More

Bready, Herbal and Slightly Sweet

Expensive, but given the labor and time it takes to makes this… understandable. This is a quality leaf component that deserves recognition. Notes of yeast bread, a marked and unidentifiable herbal note and a touch of sugar. It’s smooth and mellow a... Read More
s is typical with Cavendish. Gets woody further into the smoke and tamping brings forth a bit of spice and ash. It’s a component… but it's a much better stand-alone than other cavendish products as this yields a much higher quality and nuance. It yields a lightly sweetened herbal quality and smoothness to any mixture/blend. I mixed it with C&D Ribbon Cut Burley and it countered the tannic earthiness with herbal sweetness. It matches the darker and deeper tones of the burley and smoothed and spread the varied notes on the palate. Mild to medium body. Nicotine is mild; 1.5 out of 5 . Read Less
Good Tobacco

I had been wondering what the base tobacco in Kajun Kake would taste like on it's own without the perique and I'm pretty sure this is it. Nice and mellow but still pretty full on flavor. I'll smoke this in my rotation but I don't think it's a great a... Read More

Taste is medium and very consistent, with notes of spices, bready, floral, wood, dry hay, earthy, spicy/acidic, creamy, semi-sweet, moderately savory, bitter orange peel/zest, a tart stewed dark fruit background note, and a peppery retro. Room note is tolerable, and aftertaste is good. Read Less
Just like Sutliff 507-S

Product: Cornell & Diehl Red Virginia Cavendish Bulk
This is another one I keep trying to like because I adore cavendished red Virginias in many tinned and bulk mixtures. But, just like with Sutliff 507-S Stoved VA, no matter how I use this one, either as a blender or by itself, it just tastes gritty, ... Read More
musty, dirty. Like ash and mud. No matter the pipe: german clay, meerschaum, briar... I must order them both again, in smaller samples than 8-16 oz., to see if I just got a bad batch last time, the bottom of the barrel, etc. Read Less

A good mellow blending component. Comes a bit too dry but useful

First bowl, grav. feed in a Markus Fohr Cutty clay pipe. I only did half a bowl with a light tamp. Likes to expand upon lighting.

end arrived so dry was on the verge of being crumbly.
Lastly, this stuff would not stay lit. Will try a light rehydration. Would reorder on taste alone.
Update: took rehydration well and is behaving a bit better. I mixed in about 7% red Virginia Cavendish with smokers Pride Cherry Cavendish and added 5% Half & Half, lastly, 4% Black Vanilla Cavendish to slow down the burn made for a satisfying mix. So I'll likely keep some on hand.
I suggest you buy some now while it's dry stock. You'll get close to 3 ounces worth in a 2 oz order. Read Less
