About This Pipe Tobacco

Manufactured in a century-old brick building in picturesque Lauenburg, Germany, Dan pipe tobacco has gained quite a worldwide reputation among smokers, with a wide variety of blends and cuts on offer. Andreas Mund became the successor in charge of production when master blender Jürgen Westphal retired, and is assisted by Heiko Behrens as well as Michael Apitz of Dan Pipe.

Da Vinci is an Aromatic pipe tobacco made from Golden Virginias and smooth Black Cavendish infused with red wine from Tuscany, yielding a pleasant aroma and Renaissance-worthy flavor.

A fabulous smoke with my morning coffee, and evening smoke when relaxing with a glass of wine. This smoke invokes my inner artist and fuels my passions. I recommend to anyone, who enjoys this tobacco blend, to buy it in bulk and maybe store it away also for special occasions…

Tin aroma: Unique and excellent. Won't guess anything different than what others have said. There is a "wine" element to the tobacco and it's lovely.
Light: Dan tobaccos seem touchy to me - maybe it's just me. When they're lit, they burn well (Devil's Holiday, SVH, Blue Note).

Overall impression - this is quality tobacco as all Dan's are. However, I agree with one review that sad it burns surprisingly hot. I can't recall a tobacco that was this hot in the bowl, despite normal to slow pacing. I cannot get beyond this after multiple bowls, and am tempted to chuck it, but know better and will instead keep it around and revisit again someday....Read More

I want to give this 5 stars but my phone will not let me lol. I'm not an automatic guy. But sometimes I want to change it up with something different. I've tried other aromatics that gave me tongue bite and just taste like chemicals. This is not like the others. No bite, no chemical taste. But true tobacco and natural flavors. Tin of vanilla, spices and mild dark chocolate. Tobacco is mostly dark brown and black with a little tan. The fat ribbon cut has some moisture, no drying needed. Burns slow with relights. The strength is mild and nic is mild. Flavoring is strong, and nothing like the tin note. Flavor notes of mildly sweet and tart red wine. Taste is medium and very consistent, with notes of lemon grass, tart dark fruit, dry herbs, wood, salty caramel, spicy, mild earth, mild floral, mild sweet background note, and a mildly peppery retro. Virginias is leading with Flavoring and Cavendish supporting. Room note is pleasant, and aftertaste is good....Read More
